A lot of people bump up the delivery cost to pay for the commision to ebay when something is sold. Worth thinking about.
Nothing puts buyers off more than high postage costs,I recommend just covering your costs.

Don't sell to Italians!
Sold an exhaust to one and he is even now (7 weeks later) harassing me to give him some money back on the P & P. I quoted him £70, it actually cost £43 to ship, take in to consideration the packaging and it probably hits about £50. He won't leave me alone!

er....I don't know if my maths are poor - but on that evidence you got an extra 20quid out of some sucker?

You should pay him a refund if that is the case - if he paid £70 and it only cost you £50, you have robbed him Italian or not!

eBay have really upped their cut for stuff, and they make again when anyone uses Paypal. They actually ask that sellers do NOT request a percentage added on for paypal - but I'm thinking of doing it, to counter the chunks they keep getting from me on every bloody sale.

Top tip for ebay, my girfriend bought an abercrombie and fitch top for about a tenner off ebay that she had seen in the store in London, didn't like it when it arrived, took it to the shop, and got given 30quids worth of vouchers in exchange! They may emply beautiful people, but they're morons!

And you still STUNG him for an extra 20 quid.

That's my pet hate on Ebay when I get done on the postage :censored:

I hate that too. Sell the item for what you get and don't rip people off for p&p; just in case you don't get what you were hoping for.

Postage and packing is not another way to make a profit.

A conscience gene, maybe?
Or perhaps a bit of business acumen? No, no 'perhaps' about it.

YOUR customer, who is YOUR FRIEND because they are giving you money, yes, that stuff you crave to have and hold - and you, under FALSE PRETENSES that it would cost you that much to send, kept their hard-earned and celebrated your 'good fortune' that you got an extra 20 pounds free - despite the fact that your customer knows and is quite rightfully asking that you rightfully, faithfully and HONESTLY refund them for something you have no right to be keeping??

Refund them with apologies, asap, and tell them you made a mistake. If you need something that relates to yourSELF a bit more than that - try thinking about the feedback that will cost you in the long run, way more than £20 - "seller charged me £20 too much for postage and refused refund"

Oh, that will look GREAT on your feedback file!

I had a tosser in Essex rip me off £85 once (stole it, didn't send item!) - I have cost him about 10 times that much for his stunt, and add the items I WOULD have bought from him since, that I have NOT, once I saw it was him selling.

Do what you like Eggmundo, but if you ask me, that kind of moneygrabbing will not benefit you in the long run - just a fast £20 for being slick, right now.

Lil' Coach just sold 6 of his psp games he doesn't play anymore and made £45 - Mummy was very kind and didn't charge him for her time listing and posting them! He stashed it in his Seagulls savers account!

Good - teach him about business early - but in future transactions you could charge him 'something' to his profits, so he learns a little more of the complexities of allocating finances

P+P is an integral part of ebay - buying or selling.

My selling postage is always cheap.

But I know full well to take in to consideration the postage charges before bidding on anything.

If you've not read how much it's gonna cost you surely it's your fault?

One other thing i really recommend,If you are posting abroad,ALWAYS send with a tracking number,it costs more but make the buyer pay.I sent something to portugal and heard nothing for 3 weeks when all of a sudden i got a message from pay pal saying he had not received it.This person had 5 negative strikes out of his last 7 transactions and feedback score of 83% and was obviously lying but because i never had a tracking number paypal took money off me to refund him!.:censored:

I don't bid on items where the seller has decided to rip the buyer off with postage charges.

Off topic but Seagulls Saver Club - How and where?

Would like to switch my daughters savings if it helps the club a little.

Thanks

That is applicable when the actual postage and packing is stated beforehand.

Whenever selling, you should certainly state 'POSTAGE AND PACKING' rather than just 'POSTAGE', so that any extra charges, no matter how slight, can be accounted for.

However, quoting a p&p charge and then having it come out at £25 cheaper is not the ticket. Then it becomes rank, opportunistic, a rip-off and, in a personal way (maybe not legally) fraudulent.

I charge a small amount more than actual postage, just to cover the cost of the packaging materials. Sometimes I am able to save something on those materials, recycle, or create - and for the few pence I might be in-pocket, over several packages it 'might' cover the petrol to get me to the post office.

On 10 packages, it could be an overall 'profit' of maybe £6 - but then I am in the post office for a half-hour, took 15 minutes to drive each way - and that's after spending over 1 hour packaging at home.
For some items I have LOST on postage, because I decided to insure or get recorded delivery that wasn't paid for by the customer. This is because they have paid a high amount for the actual item that I do this.

You should always get 'proof of postage' on eBay items that are not recorded delivery. It is free, and covers your item up to around £32. IF it got lost or broken, the post office then need a proof of value (i.e. the eBay sale page print-out) to re-imburse.
Some forms of post actually cover for more money.
