It sits very well. Luckily we're only talking about £18 or so.

Nice to see you again on Tuesday, by the way. :)

Hiya Chap, yes sorry, got stuck at the bar for a £30 round, and didn't see you again.. Still, at least you didn't get dragged off ya bar stool again i suppose :)

As an ebay seller I always obtain Cetificate of Posting. If the item goes missing then I can make a claim of £41 against the Royal Mail.
As a gesture of goodwill I would refund the purchase price to the buyer and claim this amount from Royal Mail.
If the item is above £41 I would request the buyer to pay for Registered post

Having just had to do this exact claim as a seller with missing item, you can only claim for the 'sold' value, not perceived/market value i.e Can't claim for £41 on a £18 sell. They make you send copies of paypal selling page etc for verification.

I've only used eBay/PayPal once. I bought a CD off a seller. He pocketed the money and didn't send the CD out. When I went through eBay's dispute procedure, they told me that the seller no longer had the CD and they were going to blacklist him and advised me to take him to court. As it was only £9, it wasn't worth the hassle but I'll never buy anything off eBay again - the buyer has no protection at all.

Is it possible to block bidders from certain countries ?

The option to NOT post to certain countries is there when selecting the mailing costs. I won't post to Africa, Eastern Europe, South America plus most Asian countries. At the bottom of my advert page, I always state that "bids from the above countries will not be accepted."

Has anyone had any experience with this? In short, I won an auction on line, they posted it second class (and got proof of postage) on January 15th and I haven't received the item.

The seller is only prepared to refund half the value. In good faith, I can understand where they're coming from with this offer, but from my point of view I've handed over my money and received nothing for it.

However, I'm fairly sure that paypal comes with buyer protection which means I can get a full refund if I don't receive the item. Has anyone had experience with this?

Let me know how you get on Sim? I have a guitar I want to sell on ebay.

Tell Paypal the item hasn't arrived and you'll get your cash back.

It's frightfully easy as a buyer to take the piss with this approach.

Sadly, this.

s a seller I've had a few claims against me, especially after the Christmas post debacle. Some retracted because items arrived, and a couple completed their claims. I just can't go through all the crap to claim against the post office now I've moved abroad. The best way as a seller is to get recorded postal option for every item sent, which I'll have to pass onto the buyers to cover the expense. Many buyers even have the gall to moan about an extra £ or two for registered posts on expensive items - no doubt preferring to make false claims wherever they can. Trusting everyone is foolish, as there will always be crooks trying it on, out there.

my first advised would be always pay by paypal. the sender is the only one who can make a claim against lost or broken goods , beware that a lot of items are never covered by insurance glass china etc,any returned damage goods back to the sender is at the cost of the buyer i the buyer should be entitled to a full refund on lost items proof or not if it has not been signed for

From the sellers perspective, i'm sure he can claim back up to £41 with proof of posting - How does that sit with value of your item ?

Having emailed the seller with this information, they have already replied and granted an immediate refund. Cheers for that, it saved me a lot of trouble.
