Only booked one restaurant meal for 31st Wedding Anniversary.

As stated will wait till the stampede is over, to be honest quite happy with just having a weekly take-away as I suppose you just get used to it.

I’ve just booked the Crab Shack in Worthing for 1st May. They have a canopy covered outside terrace and the booking website also mentioned they have a place at the Shelter Halls.

Unfortunately the council have said their outside terrace covering is an extension of their restaurant, not a separate outside space so they can't open until May now. Council jobsworths

Without passing judgment on Crab Shack specifically, I'm not massively surprised. I mentioned to Mrs B recently how some of the marquee type things that pubs and restaurants were putting up were not really outside by any conventional meaning.

Really tough on the establishments trying to get up and going again, obviously.

Happy to hang on a while, i'm thinking more over May and June.

It makes sense to me that existing restaurants try to make more provision outside.

In particular, it would make sense to work with the council for places like Preston St, to get the roads closed by 6pm and all day weekends to have some outside tables. (clearly a high power pressure washer and a few fairy lights would probably be needed before punters came in).

Just wondered if anyone knows of any plans in this regard? Or had any opinions whether this sort of thing should be happening?

Just wait until 17th May when indoor hospitality reopens

If your happy to wait then as the above poster has suggested you can eat indoors [emoji106]

Can legally.

But I probably won't have been vaccinated, so planned to look for outdoor options until I have been

Think I'll wait. I can just imagine booking a table, and then come the day it'll be HONKING down and blowing a gale. Or freezing cold - I hate eating hot food outside when its chilly, it just turns into a race to ram it down your gullet before it goes cold.

Good luck to all you early bookers.

Where do you think is going to be a good bet for some (relatively) covid secure meals out in the city this spring?

Are there going to be any “pop up” outside eateries do you think?
Could there be road closures, for example, Preston St or East St to allow more outside dining?
Out of the existing options where do you think would work best with the current regulations and would be safest?
Do you see most pubs and restaurants reopening with distancing, or do you think many will stay closed due to the difficulty in making profit?
Do you think some will have closed for good?

i'm going to give Bret Mendozas pub the Caxton Arms a plug , know he has put in a big effort to maximise his outdoor seating for dining and he's an Albion stalwart..

I'm looking forward to trying out Rockwater when it gets going. They must have put a lot of money into that place, the amount of changes they have had to make to keep up with the baffling array of covid regs.

I think I will wait until the weather is better or indeed, the 17th of May. Very close to my Birthday so I'm happy about that. I'm not a fan of al fresco dining unless the weather is tip top. Nothing nicer than sitting out on a bustling boulevard or square, enjoying some meze, slow glass of something nice while people-watching and chatting away to friends. Nothing worse than sitting outside on a wet and windy day, watching the tea blow out of your mug and the saucer fill up with drizzle as you eat a sausage barm in three mouthfuls just to get it over with :lolol:

Worthing Council  as much use as tits on a bull.

No argument from me.

They closed Portland Road (south end) to "aid social distancing" but all they aided was the Fat Greek restaurant to stick a huge marquee in the road. I can only assume that the council intends to close every thoroughfare where there is an eaterie so tables and chairs can be put out on the roads.

The outside area of Brooksteed Alehouse is looking rather more like an extension rather than a " Covered Area " these days .. Mind you, it's different rules for good beer [emoji482]!

But The Crabshacks outdoor area isn't up to scratch / doesn't meet spec. ...... could it be there was some financial incentive involved or lack of it.

If the weather doesn’t change I suggest you’d have to be a Northerner to eat outside :lolol:

Yeah had this before. Me and Mrs Me went to Shepherd & Dog in Poynings/Fulking and decided to sit outside as the sun was out, all tables inside were taken and it "wasn't too bad".

Sun went away. Wind picked up.

Sat there eating what was clearly a really nice roast, but completely ruined by the elements, and stone cold within about 4/5 minutes.
