still dont understand the connection between an easter egg, and some poor sod being nailed to a lump of wood.

Easter eggs, also called Paschal eggs, are special eggs that are often given to celebrate Easter or springtime. As such, Easter eggs are common during the season of Eastertide. The oldest tradition is to use dyed and painted chicken eggs, but a modern custom is to substitute chocolate eggs, or plastic eggs filled with confectionery such as jelly beans. Eggs, in general, were a traditional symbol of fertility, and rebirth.

In Christianity, for the celebration of Eastertide, Easter eggs symbolize the empty tomb of Jesus: though an egg appears to be like the stone of a tomb, a bird hatches from it with life; similarly, the Easter egg, for Christians, is a reminder that Jesus rose from the grave, and that those who believe will also experience eternal life.

My understanding of the egg is that it symbolises Spring and new life. I believe many ancient religions, Pagans etc used the egg in their Spring Festivals. Of course, they used natural eggs, we thought this was too dull and so once Christians hijacked the festival they decided to peddle giant chocolate eggs instead of a nice, natural healthy egg. Personally, the chocolate they use for most easter eggs makes me cough for some reason but I can't remember the last time I gave or received one. I like a nice poached egg on fresh toast myself. Cadbury Crème Eggs, to my mind, are one of the foulest confectionary items ever produced. Too thick chocolate filled with sugary f*ck mustard. Gopping.

Worked for a major retailer 10 years ago and the last delivery before Christmas was always Easter egg due to the fact the shelves would be empty and they need something to fill them. That's why thd dates are always so crap on Easter products cause they are produced in early December.
