Brighton & Hove Albion’s under-23s take on Eastbourne Town in the quarter-finals of the Sussex Senior Cup at The Saffrons this evening, kick-off 7.45pm, as Simon Rusk’s team look to keep their defence of the trophy alive.

The Seagulls have beaten Lewes and Hastings United en route to the final eight of the competition, winning 1-0 and 4-0 at The Dripping Pan and The Pilot Field respectively.

Josh Kerr fired the winning goal in the second round of the competition, before Stefan Ljubicic’s brace and goals from Danny Cashman and Ryan Longman secured victory over the Arrows.

Rusk’s team are in excellent league form, having taking nine points from five unbeaten matches in the Premier League 2 Division 1, which includes back-to-back wins over Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City.

Tonight’s opponents have won three matches to reach the quarter-final stage. John Lambert’s side sealed 3-0 victories over both Sidlesham and Whitehawk, before edging past Worthing with a 2-1 victory at The Saffrons.

Eastbourne find themselves in third position in the Southern Combination Premier Division after 28 matches, with Zac Attwood and Aaron Capon currently on 11 league goals for the promotion hopefuls.

The winner of tonight’s quarter-final will play Bognor Regis Town at Nyewood Lane in the semi-finals, while Haywards Heath Town and Burgess Hill Town go head-to-head at the Hanbury Stadium.

Not pulled out then due to having no players available then?

It's a minor miracle, but it would appear that the club have been able to pull a matchday group of 16 together from their wafer-thin professional staff of 47 professionals (not out on loan) and 17 scholars.

Not pulled out then due to having no players available then?

Wasn’t that all explained quite clearly as a non story and the county FA were well aware it would happen in advance or something..?!

Seven scholars in the starting line-up (which is, of course, why the tie was cancelled the first time around - Albion wanted to play the kids but they had faced Man Utd in the FA Youth Cup just two days before. God knows why the original fixture was even scheduled for the day it was, as it was only announced AFTER the FA Youth Cup fixture had been arranged):-

I believe both semi-finals will be played at Culver Road, Lancing (the Sussex County FA headquarters). But yes, Bognor Regis Town await the winners of this tie.

I always find our encounters with Bognor really tough they have such a strong SSC pedigree. Always remember the semi final at Culver Road that went to penalty's and Kuiper's saved about the 13th to take us through.

From the clip he looks like he could be looking at serious trouble and suspension but we mustnt pre judge it..

Yeh Sam. Not sure what happened but someone said something about one of their lot pushing a fan so he reacted but not sure. White line syndrome can affect many (as soon as that touch line is crossed you turn in to a fierce competitor!)

So do I, just for Ivesy!

Ha yeh a very local feel to that Eastbourne side these days. Shame they’ve had to make the backwards step from East Sussex Prem when we ruled the world!
