My first taste of the ESU this weekend and although it has cost quite a bit I'm looking forward to it as a family day out.

But when is the best time to get a pie? Is half time a nightmare? My appearances at the Amex are fewer than I would wish but would love to celebrate first game of the season with a pie and a pint.

Before I get slated for being a JCL or only there for glory ties, I've been to over 30 grounds watching Albion in less glamorous places like Oldham and Brentford on miserable nights and happen to be in sunny Sussex this weekend.

Ah, lovely, another opportunity for the moaners to slate the catering, service, prices, pie availability etc.

Sorry to interrupt. Carry on chaps.

Ahh, another moan about the moaners, that's bound to solve the 'problem.'

Before and after the game is fine. Don't bother at half time.

Same. Get there an hour before and you'll be fine!

If you want one at half time, you will need to miss the last four/five minutes of the first half, service is slow unless you have a degree in foreign languages.
Rock up 40 minutes before kick off and there is plenty of availability and the queues dont seem too bad.

In my experience, if you leave it till 45 minutes or so before kick-off, it can be a bit hit and miss as to whether you'll get you pie of choice, especially any specials.

Half time is fine, but if you want to see the second half start you may need to leave your seat before the end of the first half. :)

Half time queues are usually a nightmare. If its a pie / hot food you're after, it's best to pop out quickly during the game, grab something and head back to your seat. As for beers, head to the mobile seller. They have ales and Kronenberg and the q is never too bad. Just enough time at halftime to buy and sink a pint if you're lucky.

You may be in my seat as I'm in the North for this game. Great view----bit quite unless we go 2-0 up early doors. The dads with their kids swear more than I do:ohmy:

Its certainly not like the wsu, less crowded less steps better view and more atmo???

Hmm... I think the crowding in the concourse makes for a better pre-match buzz. Not fussed about the 150ish steps from the turnstile to my seat! The atmosphere in-game hasn't been great lately, despite the efforts of myself and those around me.

Fingers crossed that i don't tempt fate but since the new lot got here, I've always been able to get a pie.
I have however struggled to get burgers in ESU at half time or just before the game.

the key to getting served at the bar at half time is picking the right queue, by checking the person working the till.

Do a proper rekky before the game with prematch beers, see which staff can work the till, so u know which queue to go for at half time.

The manager bloke of the north end one is great and resolves any confusions as quickly as he can and I've not seen him moody yet! knows his stuff.

Pre Barber era i would have said get a couple of pints and a pie before KO and you be fine.
Nowadays i would say buy at least three pints and a pie before KO,at HT get another pie and at FT another pie and pint.

The reason is because the pies have gone from 85% meat to 45% meat (IMO) and hence you always feel hungry and the reason for more pints is the current plastic glass is so flimsy any red blooded male holding one will probably squeeze it and you will lose a third of it.
