Can anyone who has watched football in Germany tell me whether you can take a beer into the safe standing area? And are you allowed to leave early, with your beer, without being forcibly detained by the early leaving police?

You can drink pint after pint, in full view of the game, should you so desire. Me and a few of the chaps went to Augsburg v Werder Bremen this year (Delaney looked alright, but got subbed after an hour), and we were on the proper old school terracing, not safe standing. Plenty of people smoking too. Wonderful.

Nobody left early, despite a dismal home defeat and sub zero temperatures, but Bundesliga games seem to enjoy a proper carry on at the final whistle (a la Klopp et Wagner), where routine victories are celebrated like it's the last days of Rome. The transport is better, it's true, but you still have plenty of time to collect your 3 euro deposit for your empty pint pot
