So why are Sky news reporting..... it's the first franchise club ever to reach a super bowl final?

No, the Indianapolis Colts used to be in Baltimore (where they won Superbowl 3).

I know all the old american football names from my school days especially the one you mentioned.Carolina? Who were they?

I'm only going by what sky news were reporting. They must have a reason for it.

Presumably they mean the first franchise club (to make the Superbowl etc) after the franchise was moved. In Superbowl 3 (which the Colts actually lost, not won (although they did win Superbowl 5)) they were still in their original location, so not a franchise team at the time.

However, if Sky are reporting that they are still wrong, I think...

Superbowl 18 features the LA (ie not Oakland) Raiders

Superbowls 34 and 36 featured the St. Louis (ie not Clevedon or LA) Rams

However it does illustrate that the success of the franchise clubs has been very, very limited.

Carolina Panthers ? Fairly new expansion franchise, there were several at the same time. Quite a nice place though.

BTW, all NFL teams are franchises, the Rams have moved several times in their history. The Kansas City Chiefs used to be the Dallas Texans and so on. Expect an NFL expansion franchise in LA soon (it's the second largest TV audience in the US yet has no NFL team since the Rams and the Raiders left town).

Another city where an NFL franchise is being considered ? London, yes London.

Ahh I stand corrected, I couldn't remember which one they won, it was the Jets in 3. Yes, you're quite right about the others too, I've only just woken up ! Apologies.
