Alstadt (may spelt wrong) is a great place, haggle for restaurant prices, we got free bottles of wine, shots etc. Mai Tai's cocktail bar is a good stop as is The Jaiger Bar. All around same area. You have missed the Dusseldorf fair but still planty to get up to. I loved the place.

Went to Dusseldorf this summer and loved the place.

One pub that stood out for us was Im Fuchschen. They served really good Alt beer - it's the kind of place where the barman just takes it for granted that everyone will drink the local brew.

If you eat there, don't have anything for ages before - the portions are humungous. I'm getting nostalgic just thinking about the spare ribs I had.

Other than that, the area east of the river has loads of places to go out in.

The Alt beer. That brings me back. They used to serve it in .two litre glasses, marking your deckel aka beer mat each time you had a drink. You simply settled up at the end. Could see that open to abuse in other countries.

We used to drink in a bar called the jester. Everyone ended up standing on the seats, singing to music pumping out of the speakers, by the end of the evening. Mind you, that was 30 years ago.
