Rained off

y Bruce Talbot »

The first day of Sussex's Championship match against Durham at the Riverside has been abandoned.

Umpires Peter Willey and Mike Harris made the decision 45 minutes before the scheduled start with large puddles already on the outfield.

Title-chasing Durham had gone to great lengths to protect the square, even borrowing a hot-air pitch protector from Premier League football club Sunderland to help cover their wickets.

But more rain last night meant the decision to call off the day's play already was little more than a formality.

There are high hopes of a start tomorrow with a dry forecast for today and the rest of the week.

lots of low scores at Durham this season so a result is likely if we get 3 days' play.

Would be good if they got docked points for a sub-standard track as well.

11 wickets down already and they lost the first session to rain

the wicket at liverpool does seem to have something about it!!!

It clearly has. That's were they played on Sunday when they got relegated. Lancs were about 70-7 then as well. Manged to scramble up to 140/150 and Durham got the runs for 7 or 8 wickets down.

It depends on how many Kent get in the end, but if they go for less than 150, dock Raincashire points and send them down!
