[Albion] Dunks chest back to Sanchez

Game after game its MOM performances, and yet ignored by Mr Southgate. Such a shame. Southgate's big thing when he started the job was about playing the form players, but not at centre back it seems.

England's loss is Brighton's gain so in my opinion I am winning.

I wonder if there was a moment in the training camp when Palace was mentioned and Dunky just laughed ....

It is one of those moments that will go down in Dunky folklore, a bit like his goal against Liverpool from the free kick. He makes it look so easy and obvious but pinpoint accuracy required and a spatial understanding of where all the other players are.

As others have said, the telepathy between Sanchez and the defence is at times mesmerising. Some of the back passes, passing across and towards our own goal are at times frightening and exhillarating. Seeing the opposition with "What The ****" expressions on their faces has been a joy to watch.

This.......it's just fantastic to watch. I particularly like (now I've got used to it :)) the kind of 'hooked' pass Sanchez curls out to the wing at pace, usually avoiding the oncoming pressing forward by about a yard.

It IS a valid point, for I don't believe for a moment Dunk would have done that had Ryan been in goal - so we would never have seen that remarkably assured bit of defending. For me it was a perfect illustration of the cast iron trust and confidence that has been forged between centre back and keeper over the past few months.

Not to the same level as this one but I have seen Dunk do chest backs to Ryan and even Stockdale.

And notice Sanchez doesn’t have to move and it’s even dropping right into his hands at the end with no pace - a child would have caught it - sublime.

That’s true, but I almost prefer Sanchez’s role in the move to Lewis’s. He just looks as cool as feck and is totally unfazed.

I used to give Gareth the benefit of the doubt...maybe he sees more into the England defenders performances?

But the others keep making mistake after mistake, and Dunky is the coolest cucumber on the pitch. There must be a feud behind the scenes because it can’t be performance related that’s for sure.

Would like to take this opportunity to say that Dunky is who I regard as the third greatest ever Albion legend (after Ward and Zamora).

A few more years and he could make it to number one imo.

Sensible post, a defender to leap frog those lads would be some achievement too.

His maturity, leadership and Albion loyalty just gets better every season.

What a lad.

He is definitely in the same league as Wardy & Zamora. Great servant to the club and local lad made good. Leads by example. Still only 29, 3 or 4 more years in his prime......marvellous scenes.:clap2:

Yes, BUT, remember they once did a little light warm-up training exercise, where Marcus Rashford just happened to momentarily get the better of Lewis.

So OF COURSE he’s never ever ever ever EVER going to be considered for England again, not even if becomes the greatest player the world has ever seen.

The recent reporting of this as a possible reason for Dunk's omission is obviously not true. The video from training was of Lewis's first call up to the squad in October 2018. He didn't get to play during that call up, his cap came when he was called again to the next England camp in November 2018. Had Rashford's trickery been a deciding issue, he wouldn't have been called up for a second squad. Some journalist or pundit has misremembered the sequence of events and made two and two make five.

Andy Naylor reported it.
