Because El Abd is the better player on current form and we're in this business to win games, not to get Dunk in the U21 squad.

Forget Liverpool, Dunk has made a fair few errors since his blinding start to the season, & in the last few games El Abd has been solid with Greer. El Abd's use of the ball has also been far better (Dunk seems the most likely player to waste possession at the moment).

He's only 20. He can afford to miss a few games. Hell, if he missed a whole season he'd still only be 21 and a better play from a years worth of training. I think AEA has more experience about him and as stated above it 'more savvy and snide'. I like AEA, a real handful for strikers and wears his heart on his sleeve, there's no doubting he wants to give his best to ever single game.

His form has dipped of late and he was dire v Millwall. He gives the ball away far too often which nearly cost us against Millwall on a couple of occasions.

The boy has talent, no doubt, but a bit of time on the sidelines will not do him any harm. Watch and learn. He has done very well for his first season at this level and only his second full season.

It's all in Gus's big masterplan - drop him after Liverpool, get his value down, re-sign him as Wolves boss for a lower fee.

Seriously though, he is due a break. I think the same can also be said of Bridcutt.

Dunk was brought back too quickly after his virus. It was obvious that he was struggling physically, even in the first half against Millwall. The hands on the hips, constant blowing and shaking of the head gave it away. He was out on his feet after an hour but for some unknown reason Gus kept him on.
Its unfair to judge him on that performance.
At Liverpool, he was clearly fitter but it was a stern test for a young player. Particularly with a goalkeeper behind him who was having the mare of all mares.
His time will come. Nobody will complain about which centre-back pairing Gus plays at the moment.
