Because we can only have 5 subs. And a full back is more likely to get injured/tired as generally they do more running than centre backs...

...yea I made that up. I don't have a clue and I don't really care. Think dunk needed a rest. He wasn't great against millwall either tbh.

When El-Abd plays we don't seem to concede as much, even though Dunk is probably a better all round player, he is not as savvy or as snide as Adam.

After recent performances he needed a rest would be the reason I would think. I think that he has great potential but at the moment El Abd is a better proposition as central defender,

Dunk needed a break I reckon and El-Abd deserves to start a game in his favored position even just for a game here and there. Dunk is only 20 too.

Personally, I think he's looked a wee bit sloppy past couple of games (not including Liverpool).

For his first proper season, 25 games into his career, I think he's done outstandingly well. But concentration levels can slip etc.

Was that Gus' reason? Who knows?

It might have something to do with Adam El-Abd being a damn good centre back?

This makes me wonder about Tommy Elphick who is out of contract in the summer I think. Where does he stand? I think that Gus will give him a short contract to prove his fitness and ability similar to what he did with Navarro, at least I hope he will, I wouldn't want to just cast him aside.

El Abd is playing better at CB every time he plays there, simple as that I think.

Regarding Elphick, really cant see how he can cut it now. Would be a good addition for a L1 side though.

Happy to be proved wrong

Tommy Elphick has already been told "not to worry" about his contract, apparently he's guaranteed to be offered 6 months minimum.

I would hope so and that is not being charitable as I think that he deserves the opportunity to prove that he either can or cannot make the first team squad for what he has given us in the past from a young lad.

I dont expect him to make the grade but may be proved wrong but at least give him the chance to try.

Not in the U21s either, so guessing England team think he needs a bit more time.
