He's our greatest ever player, there is no debate. It's a shame he didn't get more of a chance with England, but perhaps that extra exposure would have caused him to move upwards anyway. I'd love to see a statue outside the Amex when he retires. If he was a striker there would be no debate, further proof defenders don't receive the comeuppance they deserve.

I don't think that the scenario you have constructed whereby he doesn't get a statue because he is not a striker, and that there is some sort of debate that there wouldn't be if he was a striker, is nonsense.

He'll get a statue.
