Dunk / Greer Mistakes

Lets put this to bed once and for all.

Defenders at this level make mistakes. Deal with it.

They're not the reason we haven't scored in three games.
Agree with this - except that I would say defenders at all levels make mistakes. They also block shots on the line, clear the ball away from corners and set pieces, make last-ditch goal saving tackles, etc. You have to offset the good things they contribute against mistakes. Goalkeepers can make worldy saves, then let one through their hands; strikers can score the goal of the season, but still miss a sitter.
Even the best defence will get it wrong once in a while.

Absolutely this. I see John Stones is getting stick from Everton fans for making mistakes. Young centre backs will make mistakes especially ones who are encouraged to play and bring the ball out. Rio Ferdinand rang into a sports phone in yesterday to say exactly this, he was encouraged to play and if you make mistakes then learn from them an move on but the way Rio played he was always prone to the odd one the same as Stones and Dunk.

We are having a very good season and one of the reasons for this seems to be that Hughton has instilled the message of collective responsibility. This side wins, draws or loses as a squad. When asked about it yesterday, the message from Hughton and from Crofts was 'These things happen. What is important is how the team reacts to them.'

It would seem a good idea for us fans to take the same view. Yes, Dunk made a mistake last night, but every player in the squad has made mistakes. Dunk and Greer have also been a big part of some excellent team performances.

Let's not undermine what the club is achieving, by looking for scapegoats the moment things don't go our way.

The message is 'Together,' not 'Who can we blame for that?'

Well put Stato.

The worrying thing about Dunk is that if we do get promoted then the sort of errors he made last night would have cost us three goals, not one.

On top of the mistake that led to Murphy's goal your average Prem striker would also have seized on the backheeled backpass and dribbled round the keeper for a tap-in, then fallen to the deck like a sack of spuds, rolled around theatrically from Dunk's clout in the penalty area and bagged their hat-trick from the spot.

Needs some time off to sort his head out but no cover for him.

Absolute liability.
There'd be absolute outrage on here if it were a league game.

Dunk wasn't even on the pitch for one of those goals, how can he be responsible?
