[Albion] Dunk - are we better without him?

A lot of us said it was ironic that Dunky got picked for England at the Euros just as his form from the previous few seasons had dipped.

I think he started off slowly this season too and mentioned that I thought his best days may be behind him. He's now started picking up injuries too. A sign that he's less resilient than he was.

I love that man. He's Brighton through and through. But to actually answer the OPs question, yes, I think we're a better side without him in it this season.

(I don't see this as a scapegoating thread. It's a very fair question when we've had such a good result without our legendary skipper in the side).

drew:
Jesus, short memories. One game which we win and everyone is casting our club captain aside. Let's not forget that, from a winning position, it was Webster's appalling back pass that got Chelsea back in the game at Stamford Bridge!

Every defender can be attached to mistakes as forwards can be attached to missed opportunities.
You could have picked Igor, JPVH, Bart, Joel, Tariq to mistakes as you could to midfielders losing the ball or misplaced passes.
Dunk legs and recent injuries may have dropped him down the order, but he isn't a write off yet.
Perhaps we should give Webster some credit too. I am a little fed up with the anti-Webster chaps, I do believe we had the same with anti-March chaps a few years back.
At the end of the day these are the guys who have stuck with us, and not flown the nest.

Seems to only get picked as club captain, on form should have been benched after first injury of season.
I think as long as he is fit and I mean match fit then he still has to play - just. If though he has to have a rest, these two from Friday can have a bit of a run… I know I know.. injuries to Webster. He deserves so much more luck with injuries. Great lad as well I hear.

I think Dunk is too slow on the ball, which is one of the reasons we are absolutely shite against teams that park the bus. Now he seems to be error prone and injury prone, while also being slower over 5 yards. It's hard to not think he's finished as our main centre back tbh totally honest

Some signs pointing towards Dunk being on the decline and maybe better for Webster to be there.

The stats are good but should always be considered against how we played and set up in those games without him.

It might be to JPVH's detriment but whenever it's him and Dunk I'd swap their sides over and have Dunk next to the more defensive Veltman.

I can’t be arsed to check the data but in gut feeling I think we defend better without our club captain than with.

Do you agree? Do you want to dig the data? For me, if all our centre backs are fit then LD shouldn’t start.
A great servant, who is rightly classed as an Albion legend, he will know when the time is right to hand the armband on, but for whatever reason if he doesn't I think Fab has enough about him to ultimately make the decision for him down the line. (I just hope it doesn't come to that)
