Let's not get silly.

They are very different with very different attributes.

I can instantly think of the goal at Elland Road ain't happening with Shane on the ball.
I'm sure there's plenty more.

As said already there's probably an equal amount of points dropped because we were lacking the presence of Duffman.

Honestly. Thought Duffy did as much on the ball today that was equal to white last year. Webster playing in the white position was far superior to him. We are very very lucky.

Now Shane, defend like your life depended on it, attack the ball when we get a corner and if the ball is at your feet, only play 10-15 yard early passes to Webster, Dunk, Biss, or at a push, Sanchez

Job Done, Boss

You say that but he passed through (successfully) the Watford press on more than one occasion today

Let's hope Arsenal don't decide they need a defending defender to sit alongside their fancy-dan expensive non-defending defender.

I got the distinct impression that was the basis on which he was working today.

But overall I thought there was more “steel” about our performance today, and he was definitely part of it,

Lucky? Or deliberate and thought through? White was always going to leave this close season, so Mr P has had time to think about it.

I could see why Duffy wasn’t a potterball player but the last two games have showed he can make potter all work. He is the no nonsense defender and he is never going to be Alan Hansen. But what he does is that he has released the capability of Webster and Dunk to move out (Webster was making crosses today like a right winger) and play. He strengthens us at corners and gives us a goal threat at corners which we don’t have with a forward line who could get starring roles in Lord of the Rings as hobbits. It will be interesting to see what Mr Potter does when Vestmannaeyjar and Burn return

Personally I'd have thought Bissouma rather than White
Was the most likely candidate for the departure lounge But things planned out differently
I seriously hope Boss signs a new deal soon and doesn't bugger off on a free next summer

think you mean fortunate.

Duffy aint a "footballer" and doesnt pretend to be, he's solid and happy to see him back doing what he does, putting the mare at Celtic behind him.

I was working purely on the basis of how obvious it was that Arsenal wanted him.

But did you see white produce anything more than duffys footballing contribution today. He did just as much if not more IMO.

Arsenal should have offered £50-60m for Dunk & Duffy 2 summers ago but bought David Luiz instead now panic bought White our 4th best CB.

Duffy middle meant dunk and Webster ie the 2 ball players had more freedom. Let’s not forget Veltman is class. When we think back, Duffy is a great player. So let’s keep those 4 for the 3 / sometimes 2 positions. 6 points come ****ing onnnn!!!!!!

All I’m saying is that Duffy played well. Nobody can disagree. I’d add add that he defended better than white and his distribution was equal.

Now here comes the spanner in the works. Webster played in the BW position. He was outstanding defensively but was awesome offensively. Much more than I ever saw from white.

I’d take £59m for white but would demand a lot more for Webster.

White was exceptional at the transition, turning defence into attack.

Defensively, the weakest of our large group of excellent defenders.

Webster showed today that he’s the master of both facets.
