I did a dry January in 1991. It still hasn't finished. Go for it - you will save a fortune and feel a lot better.

Likewise. Today marks my 11th anniversary. One of the best things I've done.

Yup, I'm going for it.
Don't really drink much but on home game weeks reckon I might get up to 15 units a week, which is just over the limit, so having a break for a month is well overdue. Hope I'll lose a bit of weight too.

I've had a bit of a troubled relationship with alcohol in the last few years. Not in the hiding it around the house sense but just having terrible drinkers guilt for a day or two after having a drink. Coupled with feeling like wanting / needing a pint or a couple of glasses of wine every day and it's been making me feel pretty miserable.

So I'm giving Dry January a go. If I don't make it I won't kick myself but I'd like to try. If I succeed I'll carry it on for as long as I can I'd imagine

Thank you for that link. I've just bookmarked it to read later when the in-laws have gone! Looks good. :thumbsup:

I'd recommend putting aside thirty minutes of each of the 30 days to watch the short videos and complete the tasks. Feels a bit clumsy at first but all starts to make sense as you move through the process. I think it worked for me because it's not about abstinence but more about being in control. I hope you find it useful.

This will be my 8th year in a row of dry January, always enjoy doing it and certainly feel more positive, more productive and certainly helps the wallet too.

Had my last drink on 2nd March 2013 (after beating Huddersfield 4-1 at home!)

If you can conquer these 2 things, youll be laughing:

The thought of going out & not drinking is always 10 times worse than the night itself. Once you’re out - the night is always as good as if you had had a drink, honest!

Find yourself a non alcoholic drink that you actually enjoy! It’s harder than it sounds as the non alcoholic beers (in this country anyway) are god awful. It really adds to the challenge if you’re stood at the bar, not wanting anything on the menu - so find a lime & lemonade or whatever that you will actually enjoy, it makes the night out so much easier!

The money I’ve saved as a result of not drinking is significant & I get to spend more time with my son, rather than suffering in bed all weekend with a hangover, so I wouldn’t go back but the feeling of wanting a beer doesn’t go away (especially at the football!)

Not a weekend binge drinker since my youth days so therefore don’t feel the need for a dry Jan. I probably won’t drink anything anyway. Virtually teetotal.

I’ve had about 5 beers and a couple of whiskeys in total this whole December, that would feel like a dry December to some on here :lol:

Not that i planned to do a dry January, bollox to that, I've had such a good day out at non league football and drinking today.
It's a no from me. :whistle:

I enjoy a good beer but I fear I am at the point where I ned to cut back a little, only had a Westmalle Doubble and a schooner of Abyss IPA today, couldn't face any more.

2) I need to lose weight
3) I need to cut spending
4) It would make my wife very very happy

Those are all good reasons to cut down or stop but I have one big issue, I want to go out and socialise. I never ever drink indoors and I can go 3-5 days without drinking. So, does anyone have any ideas on how to get over the social aspect? For me, it is not a case of going out and not drinking, it will not happen, certainly not at first anyway.
