a lot of the time there are other ways for the police to diffuse a situation than to arrest people. one of the police officers was almost laughing at the people being arrested and how it could mess up their lives if they are about to go to univeristy or pursue a career in law. Much more discretion needed from the police officers.

Our licencing laws and drink culture have made many city centres no-go areas during the hours of darkness, go to many places on the continent and it is totally different. I can only speak from the experience of six years living in Belgium and the Netherlands, during that time the only trouble I ever saw involved British people. The strange thing is that continental Police forces are generally far less tolerant of the type of disorder on this evenings programme, and to be fair it happens less frequently, the difference is that they don't mess about and shoot first then ask questions later.

Having watched some of that I'm amazed that they can keep their cool so well. What a load of shit to have to deal with. I was hoping that they would actually give some of those piss heads a good kicking.
I'm guilty of judging them by the bad apples rather than the much larger number of good ones. So, I must fall on my own sword and appologize to all the rozzers on here. Sorry, Edna, Xoox, etc. - keep up the good work.

there seems to be less trouble in brighton, and i feel much safer on west street now that there aren't about 4,000 people spilling out at the same time
