In front of the PC
I have just run PC Pitstops checker and it has highlighted that some of my drivers are out of date. Can anyone recommend somewhere that can detect which drivers are out of date, then let me download the ones I need free? Found lots of sites that do a scan but then you have to pay to download the updates.

Thanks

Think his talking generally but I don't know any free sites that do this. The main ones I always kept up to date was my graphic card drivers. Sometimes motherboard. I'm pretty lazy when It comes to things like this unless I've got problems.

I know every make and model of my components inside my case.I just update them through there own web sites. You don't need to be a pc buff to do this.

if everything is running ok i wouldnt bother, except maybe the graphics drivers. if you feel you have to, go to the manufactuers site for for each compnent to get free downloads.

You should be able to get the correct drivers for each component from the manufacturers web site.

I downloaded and tried DRIVER DETECTIVE which claimed 12 of my 40 drivers (on a Tosh M2 laptop) we out of date.

I paid for the licence fee which provided a version that would enable me to automatically upgrade these drivers - I should mention that I'm pretty PC literate and everthing was actually working as expected / no problems.

Anyway, it updated my printer driver to the same version and still told me it was out of date (same version on the Epson site).

It tried to upgrade my graphics driver and hung the system - recovery required safe-mode boot and roll back the driver.

Fortunately, the purchase was through US site "Safe Cert" that offers a money-back guarrantee - okay it was only $39.90 - but when I complained, I got a full refund.

So, in my experience, I would NOT recommend DRIVER DETECTIVE.
