The Tweet was spur of the moment?

I thought she ignored the collision, drove on, got home, revelled in her joy, then Tweeted.

I hope she didn't do it while she was driving.

She was charged with driving without due care and attention, failing to stop, and failing to report it (if you have an accident in which somebody has injured, and the police aren't notified at the time, you are legally obliged to report it as soon as possible, and in any case within twenty four hours).

Evidently the court decided there was insufficient evidence to find her guilty of the due care offence, but that she was guilty of the two offences relating to her not stopping or notifying police.

Had she not gone home and tweeted about it, she may have been able to use a defence that she was unaware of any collision (it does happen, especially where larger vehicles are involved). However, having told the world that she'd knocked a cyclist over, she could hardly have used that one.

From that BBC article: Way refused to comment as she left court, saying she had signed an exclusive television deal.

Anyone know for certain what the law is now on making money from the media as a result of 'selling your story' after you've been convicted of an offence?

Genuine question as I know this was raised as an issue regarding media deals a few years ago, but I can't remember what the outcome was.

I guess the fines related to her new jobless status post the incident. I do hope the "TV" deal does not compensate her for this loss of income.
