Its quite nice, I spose, in the same way that going to any random football match tends to be quite enjoyable, beer on the terrace is nice and I can walk to and from the ground. If I can afford it its a nice way to spend an evening. It isn't the same standard as the Albion or close to it, and nothing beats watching your own team.

In my opinion this "Lewes/Borough are better value than the Albion" thing is a complete and utter myth. Yes its half the price, but the standard is poor, and the atmosphere still very much feels non-league. It reminds me of the Welsh Premier League, which I used to pay 3 quid to watch.
£3 you were mugged

Too far from the sun
i thought that was the origins of a footy fan. go and get your prawn sandwich dinlo
How does staying loyal to the team you have always supported make anyone a 'prawn sandwich' fan? If anything it is the 'I'm going to support them they have better beer/stand/facilities' who is the prawn sandwich follower.

What you going to do when Lewes become crap again? Follow Crawley perhaps? May be Eastbourne? Who cares?

Me - I'll be following Brighton all the time they exist, whether it's in a shithole like Withdean or a brand new shiny stadium. If that makes me a prawn sandwich fan then pass me the mayo and piss off to the Dripping Pan where you so obviously belong

Erm...it IS non-league. What did you expect - 6,000 fans in full voice on the Ham Lane terrace?

Exactly, and not something to match going to watch the Albion. There is a reason why it is cheaper.

I have lived in Lewes for the last 20 odd years, and to quote Bill Shankley, if they were playing at the bottom of the garden I'd draw the kitchen curtains.

It's only ever been the Albion

This is Fixtures following a couple of threads we have had in recent weeks.

I am a regularly attending Brighton fan since 1971 and have lived in Lewes since 1991. Have been watching Lewes more regularly in the last 3 years or so. An element of glory hunting if you like, but an element of disillusion with Withdean whereby we gave up our 4 (family) season tickets last year.

It's not generally a problem to follow both Lewes and Brighton, but this Saturday I face a real choice:

Factors in favour of going to Withdean:
- see the new players
- I am a Brighton fan

Factors in favour of going to the Pan:
- It will cost me £14 rather than £70 for me and my 3 lads (the eldest plays for Lewes U15 so gets in free)
- Its nearer so I can get home for the 2nd half egg chasing
- Beer on the terrace
- Its under cover, and you can sing along
- Lewes top of the league and playing some good stuff
- I can stand with my mates/ know lots of people there

So, "being a Brighton fan" has to count for a lot(!)

I am genuinely unsure what to do. My eldest son would prefer to go to Brighton, my youngest prefers Lewes as his mates go along. The middle lad doesn't mind.

Advice welcome.

ime BHA but you were having a dig about beer and terraces against withdeans graveyard atmosphere appeal, therefore have another prawn sandwich dinlo

thats not true as the club will have to further improve the ground to BSP standards

Which is already underway, they have already been told that they are able to go up. The problem is that they can't turn it into a stadium that meets football league standards.

PG - the answer is Lewes this week, and Albion next time out (when hopefully one or two of your kids won't be able to make it, allowing you to trouser a tidy saving  )

I can honestly say with my hand on my heart that I'd rather pick interestingly-coloured items of felt out of my capacious bellybutton on a Saturday afternoon than go and watch Sussex non-league shite. That's because I'm a Brighton fan.

That's where I'd got to logically.

In truth junior probably wouldn't come to Withdean this time anyway.

That's the problem, Lewes this year are not shite! Albion players could learn something in terms of commitment and teamwork, and the skill levels are patchy but sometimes very good. Evidence: they beat Havant +W 4-0 the other day.

Fair enough, it must have some merit going there I guess. I just know that I'm very grateful to have been brought up from day one in a family of Albion fans - I wouldn't thank them for having introduced to me to "Sid and Doris Bonkers standing under a bus shelter"-football as a kid. Each to their own etc.

i used to go and watch lewes play when the team was full of good local prospects since king took over the club is now run by king and his football agency.the little man has changed the little friendly club into a nice little business for himself. ok they will get success and thats fine, but the place has changed drastically for me and i wont go back.

Still seems friendly to me, but then I'm used to League grounds.
Oh and the team is in its best ever League position and has built 2 new stands.
