Do they re-cycle the bus names though?

I've always thouyght it a shame they don't have a mini biography on the bus that carries the name. My personal fav is Phoebe Hessel who ran away at 15 to join her boyfriend in the army (thus serving as a man) and later went on to have umpteen kids and lived to be over 100. What a character!

Yes they do, the current buses on the Route 1s are carrying the names of the buses they replaced. When the first no step double deckers came to Brighton, they were assigned to Route 1 with a set of names. Those buses were replaced by newer ones in 2007 on the 1s, but they were kept on and they kept the names. They're now departed having been replaced by the new stock and the new stock have taken on their names. Whether that was a deliberate thing by B&H buses I don't know, it might just be a coincidance. I've spoken to Roger French before about the fleet and he looked overwhelming bored, and a bit embarrassed for me!

There is an in depth profile on each name on a bus at;
http://history.buses.co.uk/history/fleethist/welcome.htm
That's the total list of current fleet with names, if you click them it'll explain why they were chosen.
