Having watched Downton on Xmas night I just couldn't get round the fact that Shirley McLaines part was being played by Stanley Baxter in drag.

I think it's a woman thing, my ex had an unhealthy obsession with Pride and Prejudice ( starring Firth) and would watch the whole series several times a week. I'm sure some poor sap is now slumped on the sofa as we speak enduring Downton in my stead.

We see many repeats of old classics but never Stanley Baxter, a great shame and I see what you mean about Shirley McLaine

Downton is always very cosy. doesn't matter what disaster strikes, can always be settled over a cup of tea and a few words of wisdom.
