Had the misfortune of sitting down to watch this tonight for the first time.

Can't bear it anymore.

Costume drama for viewers with a low span of attention.

Utter utter drivel.

Worryingly, this is regarded as " Top Quality Drama" by ITV.. it is absolute drivel, most of the plot is telegraphed rather obviously and all stereotypes are milked harder than an Ethiopian Cow.

This elevates the great Inspector Morse and Lewis to Shakespearian levels by comparison.

It screams middle aged and middle England. Still I guess it gives Daily Express readers something to watch on a Sunday evening.

It is lame. The sort of thing to be watched when you're doing your ironing though, as it requires little in the way of brain power to keep abreast of what is happening. Oh, and I quite like Maggie Smith the actress and the useless, snooty character she plays.

It's probably a sad confession to make but I really like it!!!!!

However I always watch it on demand without the ads. Ads kill any ITV drama and give it a cheesy feel. Give it a go without the ads and you'll notice the difference.

I can take it or leave but in comparison to the reality/cook/soaps that are the alternative it is total quality. At least I can actually watch it, shame it is on at the same time as Spooks which is the only truly excellent programmes that are on all week.

We watch Spooks and record Downton to watch another day and skip the ads.
It isn't brilliant but it certainly ain't awful.

I enjoy it. The worst bit was turning over at 8.55 and getting the last 5 minutes of that pathetic crap x factor.

As I've said before, there is almost nothing on BBC1 or ITV that I want to watch, can't think of anything at all on ITV, and really only F1 on Beeb1 - and that's moving to Sky. To be fair, they still do nature/science stuff pretty well on Auntie, a few things on BBC2 worth watching (e.g. QI), but little else, and it's only going to get worse as they cut back on original program making.

That doc on BBC2 about Manta Rays the other day was fantastic.

Sunday night tellybox is complete and utter BOBBINS.
Thankfully I can catch up on An Idiot Abroad and Boardwalk Empire to see me through the cacophony of SHIT served up on Sundays. And repeats of The Thick Of It, which I can happily watch endlessly.

I haven't seen any of this series yet, but though the first series was CRACKING. And I bet I enjoy this one too. It is undoubtedly pulp costume drama, but done in a very good way.

Sunday night is all about Masterchef Australia for me.

I saw one episode and I thought it was the sort of watered down middle-class papp that Henman Hill attendees would lap up. Flag waving, cake-baking closet Nazi's who come across as the epitomy of quintessential middle England who would also start a petition if someone from an ethnic background moved into their village.

It offends me so I dont watch it.

Instead last night was a wonderful televisual feast of:

Where Eagles dare

Two episodes of Family Guy

Re-run of the Thick of it starting from the beginning.

Malcom Tucker - one of televisions greatest ever inventions.

M. Tucker.

Glorious.
