I like Hammond as a player, he just looks a bit jaded and tired to me. He is a young lad, a rest may do him good. Reid can play there and Nicolas is coming back. I wouldn't mind if Kerry was given another go given his good performance at Southampton.
  think u've summed it up lovely nobody is sayinh hammond isnt a good player just isn't in good form

London Irish, it seems, will always support the starting eleven and McGhee regardless. He often contradicts himself greatly just to satisfy this.

If you could name one such contradiction, then of course you might not be talking absolute bollocks. But slim chance

Hammond needs a rest - were you not yourself suggesting that yourself a while back li?

No I wasn't - stop making stuff up. He is one of my first names on the teamsheet and this utter bollocks about his poor form is just people adjusting their own absurdly inflated view of him when he went on that good scoring run.

I argued he should be kept out on the left, where I feel he is best suited given his current stage of development. But Oatway's injury has put paid to that, he is unquestionably a better option in CM than Nicolas (not physical enough, doesn't get forward) or Loft (inexperience).

cos he thinks he's the manager?

That's funny, I'd imagine the "I'm the manager" meglomania is more to be found in those who will SWEAR they know better than McGhee about the team

yeah i agree actually, it pisses me off too and i am in the "magoo-in" brigade. however, sometimes the amount of depth you go into about players does get a bit over the top sometimes, thats all.

It would be a big call to drop Chippy's intelligence and Hammond's workrate from the team.

Bollox - it is the obvious change.

our midfield has been shite since christmas and needs a radical kik up the arse

Carpenter has been well below par (we alll know he is better than this) and Hammond is just woeful (all running around and not doing anything)

Any co-incidence that we have gone of the (likewarm) boil that we were on when Oatway got injured.

Our midfield outfought Leeds, had the edge over the 5 men of Burnley and created the best chances in the first half against Coventry.

But apart from that they've been shit of course.

I think we do miss Charlie's grit and drive but I'm not gonna pretend if he was fit again tomorrow we would start winning every game :glare:

i always feel chippy is at his best when he has some one alongside who's a bit more of a complete midfielder than oatway or hammond! feel when he played alongside the likes of rodger or sidwell more skillful players he was able to sit and dictate a lot more than when he's alongside charlie and he's expected to suddenley after nearly 450 games is expected to become a playmaker ! but you won't hear me slatting good old reliable chippy you always know what your gonna get from him

I think we will always struggle with the midfielders at our disposal as we haven't got that real championship quality midfield brain - the type of player that makes the differnece and makes things happen.

Any 2 from Chippy (past his peak), Hammond (in and out of form), Loft (untested and inexperienced), Oatway (love him to bits but even when fit we all know his shortfalls), Nicolas (never had a decent run but when given a chance hasn't really shown he deserves it) is always going to struggle to create at this level.

The fact that year in year out we still play Chippy/Oatway or Chippy/Hammond even at this level shows that really we don't have any better options.

When we did unearth a creative midfielder (albeit left-sided) we were forced to sell him to Ipswich within 4 months!!!!
