It does strike me as unusual that people demand signings early doors.

There are various factors to consider.

Firstly, players are still under contract and there is perhaps no urgency to sign for another club just yet.

Secondly, I am certain that the club would pursue a player they want to sign if there are other offers on the table for that player or we desperately wanted him immediately. Then it is a case of whether we can match or trump the other deals and whether we can convince him to join us or whether he is happy to wait to see what else comes about.

We went out and signed Painter at the earliest possible opportunity.

There is no point comparing ourselves to other clubs and stating that e.g. Orient have signed 11 players and we have only signed 4. How many of those would fit into our plans/squad etc.?

These kind of sensible posts are just not welcome.

Lets face it if you are a professional football player you should be able to sign a week before a match and know how to pass, kick and talk to your new team mates. Calderon managed it when he came here ok. There seems to be some kind of panic that if we don't sign someone early they wont know what to do.... or I guess going on the previous managers and chairmen we didn't get the right players in full stop.... which time wont change anyhow.

But I for once, for the first time in about 5 or 6 years have renewed faith, Gus and Bloom will delivery....?!

We've got a relatively settled side. The only worry about preparation would be if we were bringing in an entirely different starting XI.

As much as I am not such a great fan of loans, I reckon they might be the key to success or (relative) failure. We are more likely to get a higher calibre player on loan than we are able to afford buying outright.

Who is the Barrel of Boredom ANYWAY!!!

I want ALL OF IT NOW!!! All those players who are coming out of their contracts now should pack their bags and get down to Withdean right now and sign their contracts!! Who do they think they are not signing for the Albion?!? It's scandalous. And HOLIDAYS!!!!! Who do they think theyare, superstars or soemthing? They should think themselves HONOURED that we are considering them. Lionel only told me last week, he said 'Look mate, if was chugging over to England' he said 'I'd be making a beeline to the Seagulls... it's all that sea air AND Gus's flairbus. You just can't go wrong. '... of course he said all in Spanish but I had my babelfish with me.

So come on Bloomey, sign em up...I hear Kev has already failed his medical!

And Barrel of Boredom? BURN HIM!!!

I do recall that Gus said he wanted to get his signings done early. He's made some, but not quite what I expected in light of that comment. However, in Gus we trust - let's see what gems he unearths.
