Just an excuse to launch a new version of a game isn't it?

Why not just let and let live? If you've got the energy for anger over something, there's plenty better places to spend it than on board game makers

Honestly I’m of the opinion that this is a tiny, inconsequential part of a very deliberate and calculated move in our society, away from the “individual as king” towards a more organised society.

Cultures where population numbers require individuals to work together symbiotically are seen as more productive than those where everybody wants to be their own Billy Big Balls and rule the school.

Being brought up in a similar time to you, I absolutely get the gut reaction of “FFS, will these kids even be able to wipe their own arses.” However, I think it’s the way society as a whole is going, the ability to collaborate and work with others is going to be prioritised over individual skill-sets.

The ant hill and the bee hive are more productive than those creatures who forage individually. Between AI and climate change, I’m not sure the future’s going to look very much like what we grew up with.

TLDR - FFS, will these kids even be able to wipe their own arses.

Well, you’re wrong. It’s more of a resigned sigh. Think I’m sighing the phrase rather than shouting it in anger.

I agree. And as someone who has employed a lot of young people over the last few years, I can tell you that you can absolutely see the results of this in them. They are just miles less resilient than we were at their age, and they completely go to pieces when things start going wrong. This problem is going to come home to roost for the UK at some point, big time. Probably when war kicks off with Russia.

I’m serious about the new milksop generation. I meant every word of that.

Not so serious about the scrabble issue.

I went through a very intense Scrabble phase in my early 20s and a few of us got very competitive over it, to the point where we’d agonise over every letter and calculate to the nth degree the most effective scoring method, usually planning a few moves ahead.

This meant each turn would take 5 - 10 minutes where we’d sit in complete silence.

After a while we just decided to go back to playing ‘cat’, ‘hat’ and ‘bum’ type Scrabble, which became a lot more fun.

As others have pointed out though, you don’t need to redesign the game to do this, just agree on the level of competitiveness you’re going for beforehand or play with a sand timer to keep things moving along.
