Don't ALWAYS trust your SatNav.....

Off My Trolley.
Although the track is signposted as unsuitable for motor vehicles', the driver carried on and found herself at a ford in the village of Sheepy Magna.

Still accepting what the satnav told her, she set out to cross the ford, but it was swollen after days of heavy rain.

I thought that computers were TOMs (Totally Obedient Morons).

Perhaps they should include map reading as part of the driving test, surely it is a skill that is vital to becoming a good motorist...at least you wouldn't have stupid things like this happening.

Better still, don't get SatNav in the first. Just learn to use a map.

But not like the lorry driver I saw a couple of weeks ago with the map unfolded over his steering wheel whilst driving.

I don't know about you but I have had loads of arse with my Satnavs.

The amount of times I have been asked to "U Turn" whilst hammering along a Motorway, or "Turn Left" as I sail past the junction...well, I tell you!

If there were two roads of ther same name in a town (e.g. Park Road) it would always take me to the one in some derelict council estate rather than the one where the Hotels etc are in the city (Bristol and Manchester) and one that I ended up throwing into the footwell and breaking because it said "At the roundabout take the first exit" every three seconds while I sat in a traffic jam for twenty minutes.

I tend to plan route with AA routefinder now before I go.

I use multimap and just print out the OS map of my destination, which it kindly rings with a red circle, that is enough!

SatNavs are a classic example of a product looking for a market. People think, ooh a new car gimmick, then once they've got it they feel obliged to use it. I am also sick of lorries illegally travelling down the C7 to Newhaven because their SatNavs tell them its quicker.

On the terraces!!
I must admit i always use my TomTom when out seeing clients, however i do always print off the AA route planner as back up.

I have now got either Austin Powers or Ozzie Osbourne talking me through the directions on the satnav which makes the journey a tiny bit better!! :)

If anybody does not want their Sat Nav then they are more than welcome to send it to me. I've used a mate one a few times and found it to be bloody great and want one but can't afford it..

I have a TomTom and Garmin on my phone, they are both brilliant and have never let me down. Sat Nav is a damn sight easier than driving across Paris in the dark after a few glasses of beer trying to read an A3 map

oh and alot safer as well !!!

If I have anything large delivered I have to tell people not to use sat-nav as it sends them in the wrong direction when they get about 200 yards away from the house. It depends which system is being used but one of them tells the driver to make a left turn before a roundabout and not after which leads them into a dead end. The other system instead of telling the driver to bear left at the roundabout and then take the first left advises them to go right at the roundabout and head toward Healing village. The development we live on was only built 5 years ago.

There was an item on the news a few weeks back about a truck driver who got his articulated lorry stuck on a footpath, after following instructions on his satnav...you would have thought that he might have guessed he had taken a wrong turn before driving about 100 metres down the path, but he didn't, it took them several days to put him back on the road.

Of course anyone with even half a brain might have thought to simply turn the volume right down while stuck in the jam. :nono::nono:

I'd imagine it would be even safer to drive across Paris without having first consumed a few glasses of beer.
