It is simply astonishing that such a person could have any chance of getting the nomination. The Republicans are joke. Reagan was practically a commie compared to this current bunch.

Do his comment not breach some sort of hate speech law? Maybe he should kick out all dumb racist white people too, until he has sorted what to do about mass shootings.

They're not though. Remember that all the polls you see are of registered Republicans (that's 29% of voters - about 15% of the electorate). He's polling around 26 to 27%: so about 4% of the US public: scarcely mass support

In his campaign he's pissed off women, Hispanics, blacks, the disabled and Muslims - that's a hell of a large demographic to have against you

Jeb Bush has most endorsements but Marco Rubio is favourite on the machine.

He also wants to build a wall along the Mexican border and "send the home". It's just beyond belief that he is taken seriously.

He is astonishing isnt he,everytime i have witnessed one of his gaffes i fully expect the next morning to find out he has been forced to resign from the race,only to find out he has gained even more support.
Its all a bit bonkers in the USA at the moment.
Im not only expecting him to announce a policy of blowing up the moon on Wednesday on the notion the dark side is too black but im expecting this policy to gain him more points.

There's no comparison between the two.

1) Bush was very much an establishment figure with the party machine and the conservative media behind me. Trump is loathed by most leading Republicans. In fact, he's basing his campaign on his outsider status. That's useful in the primaries, not so good in an election.
2) Bush assiduously courted various groups, especially Hispanics, but he didn't demonise any group so that an entire bloc would vote against him. Trump doesn't care about anyone beyond his core audience

3) Hard to believe now but Bush's campaign was based on "compassionate conservatism". In other words, he wanted to reach out for the centre. Trump has no intention of doing any such thing

The Republicans would be barmy to vote Trump as their candidate: I can't see them being that being that stupid

Bear in mind that the existing muslim population in the US is relatively small (about 1.5% if I remember correctly - compared with more like 5% here in the UK), which means that the electoral impact of his remarks through the voting influence of US muslims will be tiny, especially given that few of them will be Republican voters anyway.

The bigger question will be what impact these kinds of statements have on the much larger black and hispanic population - on the one hand they may react against the racist tone of this remarks; on the other hand they are overwhelmingly Christian, often quite conservative populations who may be themselves fairly Islamophobic so the remarks might even resonate with some of them (although, again, a lot of them won't be Republican voters anyway).

My guess would be that among the core voters he's clearly targeting - conservative whites, many of whom are extreme Christian fanatics -- this kind of thing will go down fairly well.

ive seen Americans shop at Home Depot,your expose that Americans are killed by furniture does not surprise me in the slightest
For the vast majority purchasing a nail gun for a job that needs a screwdriver, flat pack furniture and following the instructions in Swedish because you cant turn the page is a heady mix and a disaster waiting to happen
