It's going to take Trump 12 months to turn things around after Bidens awful presidency.
Pennsylvania is turning red via registered voters. The dems had 600k firewall, that is now down to 90k at last election.
You will be amazed how quickly someone can damage something. Bidens presidency oversaw a huge job creation wave that has now stalled.

You are confusing populist with right

I'm surprised by the amount of people criticising Musk while simultaneously using Twitter. They can't care that much if they continue to use his products.
Personally, I'm in the process of moving over to Bluesky (not that I'm an massive user of either, certainly not posting), but a lot of Twitter people don't post there. So I use both.

Thread ban for trolling

And now I'll never get an answer to my question

You may have missed it earlier, but a few people are wondering where you got this extensive knowledge of the USA ? How long were you there and whereabouts in that vast country of wildly differing political opinions ?

After all, I'm sure your knowledge and experience wouldn't have all come from a single bedroom in the backwaters of Crawley ???

The GOP can't bring Canada to its knees economically. However, if they can install enough high-ranking, crazy-corrupt Mike Flynn-type generals, then an armed invasion is possible. (There are still too many "normal" military leaders who would balk at attacking their closest ally, but they're being replaced with RWNJ.)

Let me tell you that apart from the MapleMAGAts in some pockets of the country, the vast majority of us take this annexation noise seriously, as an existential threat. We're boycotting US products, cancelling trips, selling winter homes in Arizona and Florida (the snowbirds), retaliating with our own tariffs, etc. "Elbows Up!" has become our national rallying cry. We are royally pi$$ed off. As I've said on Bluesky, the Murkans will have to nuke us if they want complete capitulation; otherwise, it'll be Vietnam Mark 2 for them.

One step closer to his prize of becoming a Dictator.

He has been declaring tariffs left right and centre as he declared an Economic Emergency. However under the emergency legislation, Congress have the power to vote the emergency over and Trump would not be able to just on a whim declare a Tariff.

So what have the Republicans done, they have ceded their power, so they don't have to vote on the issue, meaning Trump can just continue doing what he has been doing.

How much more power will they give away in the coming months.

Job creation was decent under Biden.

But the trouble with the US is they have experienced a lot of GDP growth but it hasn't benefitted the wider population. The wealth just gets more and more concentrated in the top 1%. Biden didn't address it and Trump's policies will only widen the gap further.

Developed economies need take a serious look at wealth taxes on high net worth individuals or we are in serious trouble. Meanwhile populists pretend to have solutions using migrants as scapegoats, this is always a trogan horse to the personal enrichment of themselves and their mates

I dropped off twitter early this year. Found it surprisingly easy. Kept the profile otherwise it will get taken over by bots.

I do get frustrated that many major orga don't use blue-sky but it has made me more disciplined to search news from only sites

Yes, I'm sure I would be absolutely fine if I just walked away, but there are certain people/accounts (work and pleasure-related) that aren't on Bluesky and I like to follow what's going on with them. Also, I've noticed that some people who have accounts on both can sometimes be more active on Twitter than Bluesky – I guess because they've still got a bigger audience there and can't be facked reposting to two accounts?

i saw that the latest tariffs with Canada had not been implemented because no one sign off on them. some hours later there was a backdown on policy. the emergency powers allowed US electric producers to increase their production, over-ride some regulations.

Trump has warned there will be bad economic consequences in the US from the tariffs he's applying
(OK, he probably also said there will be none, but...).

Tariffs are taxes. He puts a 20% tariff in an imported item, and the exporter raises prices to cover costs, and the American taxpayer pays the difference.
So Trump is increasing the US tax burden, while making imported goods more expensive.

The only way he can punish foringers with tariffs is if Americans stop buying the imports.
Sounds like a genius plan.

Perhaps we could help out the UK wine and cheese industries but putting tariffs on imported wine and cheese.
We can then enjoy some lovely Hampshire red while eating a Cheese String and feeling super patriotic. MEGA!

No, No, No totally wrong.

Trump's Press mouthpiece took a question from an AP reporter, where he asked why Trump wasn't focusing on lower taxes which was part of his election campaign rather than effectively increasing taxes through tariffs.

The response, tariffs are a tax cut for The American people, and how dare you question my economic knowledge.

Just wait until The Ministry Of Truth get fully up to speed, you will be questioning why you ever though Tariffs increased the tax burden.
