Thank you, and for the advice. Will try and remember although not sure if even had a collar on. Thinking about it this morning, it probably is a Guard dog. Makes sense for a small business. Not excusing the owner, it needs to controlled and muzzled if capable of running out onto the public road and attacking others! That or they need a fence!
That was my neighbour's excuse for the barking. After I had a quiet word for the 4th or 5th time, his reaction was 'well they're guard dogs, they're going to bark'

This is often banded about, in my head it really is how you define bad. To me if a dog is aggressive, likely to bite or kill someone, can't be trained not to bark all day, that's a bad dog. As a pet anyway. Some breeds are genetically different, its what they are. And irrespective of how responsible the owner they will always be, in respect of domestication a bad dog

Same with sharks, and members of the cat family.
True, but as an owner you, as a minimum, need to a) train your dog b) know how it's going to behave in various environments and c) make sure no harm comes to anyone else or any other animal by keeping it under control at all times

100%.

Some people shouldn't be allowed to own dogs (and some dogs shouldn't be allowed to be owned which I guess they aren't, I think the bar should be quite high on this cos too often the wrong dogs are owned by the wrong owners)

I'm sorry to hear about your dog. Stuff like this impacts them and is horrible to deal with as an owner, even more so when the protagonist is an arsehole about things.

Mine won't go near bigger dogs since a Labrador had a go who was owned by a useless woman who just stood there. COVID seemed to introduce a load of shite dog owners into the system

Idiots trying to look hard whilst hardly being able to walk their ugly dogs because they are to lazy to train them wind me up.
The dogs themselves often look unhappy to.

This is what it boils down to IMO. Have been somewhat unlucky. That's life!

Thanks for all the well wishes. Reported to Police (101) in case happens again to someone else. But not looking for any follow up, it’s just one of those things and have drawn line under / moved on.

I get mauled (slight exaggeration) pretty much every time I go for a walk / run. I'm sick of it. I've been knocked over twice (and I'm not small).
The owners don't give a shit anymore and they never seem to be on leads anywhere.
Equally we've had to give up on having picnics in the park, as it always ends with a dog wading into the middle of it and eating our food or scaring the shit out of my daughter (who is invariably dwarfed by the giant animal).
And they're always 'just being friendly'.

And if I ever look at Friendface or similar it's full of comments saying 'well I'd rather restaurants were full of dogs than children'... 'I'd rather a dog in a supermarket than a screaming child'... 'at least it's not a lycra clad cyclist'...

/end of rant.

Sorry, realise this was not entirely relevant to the OP - sounds like an awful situation.

Mauled means attacked / harmed in some way. Nearly everytime you go out - where do you live? Battersea?!!

Do you mean tripped up or jumped up/muddy pawprint and the like? Not acceptable either, too many people not in control as you say. And don’t get me started on the poo leavers. I just can’t understand these people, it’s disgusting and so easy to pick up / put in bin. Just like litter, another of my bugbears.

You quoted me before my caveat haha...

But yes, growled at, tripped up, shit everywhere, and so on.

I also ended up nearly dying in hospital last year as a result of what was most likely toxoplasmosis - though they were never able to confirm.

My friend has a Cane Corso who can go off lead and is the stupidest, clumsy, loving dog you will ever meet. Because he was trained. Socialised with other dogs and people from an early age. Just don't act hostile towards his mum.

Bloody hell, that’s awful Notters. Glad you’ve recovered. I really think dog owners can be scum of the earth sometimes. I’ve witnesssed some outrageous behaviour and they give us all a bad name. Pees me off. I pick up others poo frequently - do these twats not realise they can step in too?!! So lazy. Even when bins provided. And if not, just take it home FFS!!!
