Does the BBC have a left-wing bias?

Makes me laugh when people accuse the BBC of being left wing. Oh look, Looney's written a long post all about it!

Yes but look at the person writing. He lives so far into a right wing lala land he is incapable of understanding where the middle ground is. Expect CF to arrive with copious links that dont prove what he thinks they do and some conspiracy nuts mutttering about sheeple and never trusting the msm, who then sit and watch Russia Today.

Too all parties neutral, gives the lefties a level playing field that they don't deserve.

If the BBC were reporting accurately they would say it how it is, vote conservative or you are brain dead.

Now that's what I call bias........

No it doesn't. People mistake left wing bias with just being fair to all sides. The BBC is one of the best institutions we have,

I tend to agree. It is actually almost impossible in any political field to be totally neutral and as other posters have put on here, it is where you look at it from that makes the BBC look bias. The original poster refers to left wing bias, but the SNP thinks they are biased against them too.

To me they give all sides an absolute grilling and it is so beneficial to us electorate that they do so, it is institutions like the BBC (not newspapers that are pre-prejudiced) that bring to light the individuals and parties that are not worthy of our vote because their policies are not coherent (an example being the recent LBC radio interview with the Green leader IMO).

The daily mail is as right wing as the guardian is left wing. Let's not kid ourselves. Most bbc jobs are advertised in the guardian . Enough said.

I believe the Guardian is the only daily with a media jobs section, which is why other nests of Trotskyist's such as The Sun and Sky News do most of their recruitment advertising in that paper as well.

The Mail loathes the BBC, absolutely hates it. Don't blame the Beeb for not dealing with them.

Simple answer to the question is "no". Everyone claims it has a bias against them, ergo it does a pretty good job. Would you prefer we were like the States where there are so many right leaning broadcasters enslaved to their commercial sponsors that no one believed in the Aaron Sorkin drama "The Newsroom" because the room in question was too liberal, even though the lead character was a member of the Republican Party. The sort of debunking on that is a daily occurrence on things like Radio 4 Today and Newsnight and all "sides" of the debates are tackled.

I guess for some people the BBC appears 'left wing' because when it comes to issues such as (the hornet's nest of) gay men and women, they adopt a modern approach. Now, for most sensible people who live in 2015 THAT's perfectly normal. For others though, it's nothing more than political correctness gone mad and the behaviour of the loony left.

I don't think it's politically bias one way or the other. It is very sensitive to the constant accusations of bias that private broadcasters never seem to receive.

I would just say it is very firmly part of the establishment, and is all the worse for it.

Exactly. What an idiotic comment. :lolol:

There is no way you can describe the BBC as left-wing. At the very least it's pro-establishment at its worst it is right of centre. Their news is unlistenable now, stopped listening to the Today programme ages ago, a shadow of it's former self. Sadly after the constant beatings it takes from politicians and the media the place is frightened of its own shadow these days.

I think we should dismantle the BBC and all its many radio and tv channels saving everyone the grossly expensive licence fee. We can all see the real news that the BBC covers up on CNN, Fox News, Al Jazeera and Russia Today.

The left wing thing is just Daily Mail ? Express readers disappointment there is no Fox News UK. Thanks god for phone hacking and no 100% takeover of BSKYB

There are some that think they are too right wing of course....

http://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2014/mar/17/bbc-leftwing-bias-non-existent-myth

Also, anyone remember this?

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/7848614.stm - hardly the work of lefties

There will always be bias in media but the BEEB does a pretty good job trying to be impartial and yes sometimes it can be irritating..

The Beeb ain't perfect but the likes of CNN, Fox News, Al Jazeera and Russia Today are all politically motivated. I call Pay TV grossly expensive plus you had to watch 11 mins of ads per hour...

I have no proof for this but I've always thought the BBC is probably left wing leaning in it's construct but tries to be neutral, occasionally slipping to the left publicly from time to time.

I don't think it does and I find it immensely reassuring that any time they allow comments on a political story on their site it fairly quickly degenerates into both sides claiming that the other is being treated better than them.

If both the left and right get wound up by them then they're probably doing something right.
