Hate Grealish for Villa but he really is a wonderful footballer.

Yep, I'm in the same camp.

100% should start on Saturday IMO in place of Phillips or Rice, neither have been bad but I'd love to see us attack teams more.

That being said, we are making good progress with this style and as long as that continues I'll be happy

Not a chance, we’ll go with what has worked so far. Flair creative players will be held backs.

Hard to knock it when it works but it’s gonna be a witch hunt on Southgate when it doesn’t. I’ll be there with my pitchfork too :lolol:

I want Grealish to start too. Really do. But we beat Germany by 2 goals. Are people really expecting us to knock 3 or 4 past them?

Not just you, but surprised that anyone can criticise Southgates team or system tonight.

Southgate is doing a good job with this group of players

I would prefer to see our more creative players on the pitch more often.

But you have to say his way is working (and I can concede that he knows a touch more about football than me) so let him carry on.

If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. I have been frustrated by Southgate’s selections and tactics thus far in terms of ambition and entertainment but they have worked. Our progress through the tournament has not been lucky it has been by design with disciplined execution of a plan. I see no reason to change now.

We should set our stall out on Saturday as per usual and we’ll keep our creative powder dry on the bench to use as and when we need it.

Yes. Absolutely.

I really cant stand the diving cheat but we have to play him as he makes such an impact as we saw last night. Ask defenders who they really don't want to be up against.

I know I'm being controversial but I would drop Kane. I have never really rated him at all as a captain; let's face it, he isn't a true leader like our Dunky. His goal last night (which most of us could have put away) will probably mean that most fans and commentators will overlook the fact that this was the fourth game that he has just strolled about in without making any real contribution. He wasn't chasing back and closing down. He wasn't making runs down the channels.

Grealish for Kane and play Sterling down the middle. Never going to happen of course as Kane seems fireproof irrespective of his (lack of) contribution.

It’s been starkly apparent in his England appearances that Grealish is doing his utmost to stay on his feet and influence the game in a positive way rather than buy free kicks 25 yard out from goal.

I believe a large part of the reason fans of the other 19 PL teams get so pissed off with Grealish in league games is because he dives but increasingly it seems that is down to Dean Smith’s preferred way of playing PL football, rather than Grealish. I hope he stays on his feet a lot more next season; it’s a criminal waste of talent to instruct such a naturally gifted player to go out there and simply win set pieces in and around the box.

Over the years can only name very few players that were really exciting and could turn a game. Eg Best,,Gascoign and Ward.. Like it or not Grealish is the next one

I'm with Icy, Gsouth will start a boring conservative safety First side, Almost Hughtonesque . .wait until the hour mark and all being well ie we haven't conceded, with opposition tiring, introduce the disco kids.

I'm not a fan but its seems to be getting results. The pragmatic approach may well work until we meet someone decent, which will be Denmark with Karma on their side, or Italy in the final. That will need a different approach, a combination of Disco Stu and world class shithouse tactics. Grealish would have to play then!

Kane’s lack of contribution yesterday was a goal and a part in the first goal.

Till Grealish came on we didn’t look like scoring.

Was "somebody decent" redefined as "anybody who beats England, and nobody else" while I wasn't paying attention?

We have a style, it's been working. Just keep playing the same way and get gradually better at it.

We can get out the flash in pointless games after the tounament.

Ukraine will pack the defence and hit us on the counter. It will be down to England to break them down. Grealish is the best player we have at breaking down a team with 11 behind the ball... he'll also win free-kicks and penalties. For this game, I would definitely play Grealish

Well Germany are generally considered to be past their prime . . . England-Germany is like a local derby. We're in the ascendancy. . . . Belgium and Italy are decent, so too France, but they're home already.

We have a technique, I wouldn't call it style, and it is working, hopefully we do get better and it will continue to work against teams better than Germany.
