If it's not the end of Navarro then it must surely be the end for Kish? We now have three first team centre midfielders-Sparrow, Bridcutt and Dicker-plus Caskey flitting around the edges of the squad. If we were to re-sign Navarro and Kishishev then we'd have six players for that position. Baring in mind that Poyet has said he wants six or seven new signings for next seasons it seems likely that one of those would be centre mid. If so, I can't imagine that he would re-sign both nav and kish as that would give us seven players for c.m. Far too many, surely?

Having said that, I agree with Bensgrandad that if we do sign a new midfielder, it'll be to strengthen the team, rather than the jut the squad. A player of that quality might prove to be not so easy to find, so it wouldn't surprise me if Navarro was still with us over pre-season.

If we sign any more midfielders I think it will be the end for Navarro, he probably is good enough but don't forget that he is 30 so if we can get more younger talent it would be a bonus. I thought he looked a bit rusty on Monday but that's to be expected after a long term injury

Before he got injured, Navs was at his absolute peak. Remember the performance against Villa when he practically ran the midfield against prem opposition? Regardless of what happens with Kish, he deserves at least another year as he is still quality.

Poyet will need players with skill but the big requirement will be, do they have the pace to go with it? Let's not forget that in Gus's words ,this is going to be a big pitch at the AMEX.

I'm not sure he has the quality...I thought he was poor on Monday and kept hitting the ball long rather than passing it to his midfield options.

I expect Gus to bring in another central midfielder and keep Kishichev as cover meaning no space for Navarro

I think Navarro will get another year, Gus (based on previous comments) rates him highly, largely for his footballing brain which you don't lose with an injury, fitness you do. Although Nav's was carefully nursed back post op, there is nothing like a pre-season to achieve optimum fitness.

I feel it will be the end for Kish, which is a shame - given his experience and adaptability to cover right back, this year he was/is a valuable member of the squad.

I think people are getting confused and carried away with comparing Navarro with Sparrow as Navarro is essentially a defensive midfielder and Sparrow is one that is able to get up and support the strikers and sometimes get in front of the strikers so they are not competing for the same spot. Navarro is in direct competition with Bridcutt and to a lesser extent Dicker for a spot so the correct answer is yes possibly

I never feel confident when Nav has the ball. He seems like a blunder waiting to happen. I remember him actually falling over when attempting a backheel a long-while ago. He makes me uneasy and i don't have the faith in him that i do with Bridders. If i were Gus, which i am not and never will be, i would try my best to put together a defensive-midfield twosome to tighten things down the centre. Impossible to replicate, i know, but i think of the Petit/Viera partnership. Two guys difficult to mess with, but enough class to play passes out to those who'll fire in the assists. Some Championship versions of that sort, Bridders being one of them, should hopefully prevent us being overrun, and allow the Lualuas of the world to roam without thought.

Ill stick my neck out and say both Kish and Navs will stay.

Kish will be here in a role similar to Taricco... rarely playing but there if needed and being used to support younger players like Bridcutt. Navs will be cover the Bridcutt, providing he proves the injury is behind him.

Ther one who is really in danger is Spaz who didnt seem to do what was expected of him this year. defo we need another CM who can also Dm if nec. Esp as the Batibaz prob wont be here next season.

I think it spells the end of Kish IMO. I think he will retire at the end of the season. Why am I the only person it seems that thought Navarro had a blinder on Monday. He really ran our midfield and found some decent passes out wide.

Of course I only watched the TV version but I agree with you. Considering it was his first full game I thought he played bloody well and was pretty much the only midfielder shielding the rather panicky defence (esp 1st half) ... his intelligence / positioning was clear for all to see. If not injured will still be a valuable player.

It must be remembered that we already had Navarro and still Gus brought in Arismendi on loan to be replaced by Kishishev and Battipedi so he must have some concern about this position and Navarros ability to occupy it.

Gus can`t take the gamble with Nav ,if his old injuries reocur we have a passenger we cannot afford

For me, monday's game showed more than anything the importance of Greer. Without him at CB the defence is panicky at best.

In the Colchester game, the pace of the movement of the ball from defence into attack was woefully slow. There is a much greater tempo with Bridcutt running things from the back.

Well worth giving Navs 90 minutes though - will he get another contract with at least one new midfielder coming in - football can be tough and unrelenting at times.
