The post about xylophone man reminded me of this guy ....

Morris, a excentric found around worthing, i mainly remember him around teville gate. He was a elderly man always with his bike and wore Big red glasses and would just stand at the side of busy roads waving to the cars passing by.
Remember Him Anyone?

I remember him, we always used to see him as we were driving to Goring to see my Grandparents. He used to wear a boater too as I re-call, a very dapper gentleman.

Yea yea Horrace! thats it! He was wierd! just remember wanting to talk to him when i was a kid and my mum pulling me away!

Theres a black guy up here, in kingston near where i work, always stands in the same place, literally 24hours a day, dressed in lycra and army suits, etc very friendly guy but rambles on about crap and very hard to understand! funny

Hi name 'twas indeed Horace. It was quite sad, towards the end of his life he was regularly getting beaten up because he was 'wierd' whereas in the 70s he just got a bit of friendly abuse.

Last time we had this thread somebody managed to post a picture of him on his bike.

i feel a bit sad, that a character of worthing has been forgotten and a happy memory of my childhood. Probably was beaten up towards the end of his life a lot.

RIP Horace

Although the vision of him at the side of the road waving reminds me of a scene in stephen kings IT. :nono:

In a pile of football shirts
I thought he was called Bertie but I am in my 30s now, but what I do remember is

1. Him sitting on Offington Roundabout (A27 meets A24) waving at everyone like a lord, but then in later life flicking the Vs and giving the bird to the passing cars.

2. Standing by the Worthing Pier with a portable "Dansette" style record player and with a microphone and amp singing along to loads of old music hall tunes, again in later life he got a bit abusive and would start using foul language in the songs!

Used to ride a pink bicycle, I think most people thought of him as a bit eccentric, completely camp, and a few I'm sure wouldn't let their kids too close (I'm not making any allegations here, just saying it how it seemed)
