I don't think it was ever forgotten! Remember the house in Dyke Road. My old man told me in the 70's.

I think it wasn't considered a 'complete' winning of the Shield as we were neither League nor Cup winners. When in fact it was an even greater achievement.

And, of course, we won the Jewish Chronicle Cup!

YouTube - Broadcast Yourself.

Here's Mike Bamber, chairman of the Albion, saying we've won nothing. Shocking behaviour.

The indomitable John Jackson, the former manager of United, organised a meeting on 24 June 1901 at the Seven Stars Hotel, now O’Neills, in Ship Street at which a new, third club was formed. Brighton & Hove United took up the now-defunct Rangers’ place in the Southern League. Because of complaints by Hove F.C., serious local competition, the name was soon changed to Brighton & Hove Albion before a ball was kicked.

Lazy cut & paste..been Seven Stars again for a couple of years now

The Collectors & Historians Society produced a set of commemorative cards, to celebrate the 100th Anniversary of the winning of the Charity Shield. One of the cards shows a picture of the plaque on the house on Dyke Road. The house was built at around the time of the victory.

The Charity Shield was, at that time, played between the winners of the Football League and the Southern League and at the time, the winners were properly recognised as 'The Champions of England'. It was only a few years later that the game involved the FA Cup Winners.

The house in actually in Wincombe Road. None of the owners have ever taken the plaque down. I'd love to own that property it is a unique piece of Albion history.Sadly way out of my price range.

So does anyone know when the club or some individual pinpointed that a club who thought they were 83 years old in 1983 were in fact a whole year younger. I think it was around the time of the shield badge in 1997.

It was Tim Carder. The 'Seagulls' book discusses the research.
