Does anyone NOT ever wear a seatbelt when travelling in a car and if so why not?

There seems to always be Government adverts about wearing seatbelts, but I can't believe there is anybody out there now that doesn't wear one. Why would you not?

Not wearing a seat belt, very Darwinian.

Amazes me how many people don't bother.

Taxi drivers are a particular case in point. In some circumstances they have an exemption from having to wear one under the law, but I just can't see why you wouldn't, even if you don't have to?

They're not uncomfortable, they take all of two seconds to put on, and they just might save your life. So why do so many taxi drivers not bother? And other drivers. Bizarre.

The only time I fail to belt up is when it's a lap belt on a coach. In almost all coach crashes, wearing a lap belt is likely to cause more injuries than not wearing one.

Somewhat topical for me as on the way home after the game on Tuesday going North through Shermanbury, there would have been 5 dead people if they hadn't been wearing seat belts.

An absolute F***ing IDIOT coming the other way was on the wrong side of the road at high speed coming round a bend and crashed into the 2 cars in front of me.

I expected to find dead bodies everywhere but thank god the seat belts and air bags had done their jobs. Incredibly a young lad who had also been at the game with his Dad was asleep when it was hit head on and apart from shock seemed ok.

The F***wit who caused the accident was trapped still in his seatbelt and had to be cut out of what was left of his car.

So the moral of the story - CLUNK CLICK every trip

I don't wear one if I know i'm only doing a short run, its laziness and I know its wrong. I ought to do something about it really

Just seems odd to me, putting it on is just a habit, I don't even think about it. It feels odd if I don't wear one.

Such a habit in fact that I tend to forget I'm wearing it (easy to do with all the kit I have to wear at work) and quite regularly make a tit of myself when on duty by attempting to get out of a car in a hurry without removing the belt first.

I always wear one since I got fined on a residential road - not for my safety.

Being forced to wear one on a residential road is very "nanny state" and not necessary. Motorways however there is no argument that it will save lives.

Yeah but pointless having to put it on and off all the time, still worth having it on for a crash at 35-40 mph, and you never know what's going to happen.

What's the big deal? Sounds like you're making a fuss for the sake of it.

I agree. It feels really alien NOT wearing one. Yet, like others, it doesn't really cross my mind to belt up in a taxi. Do I really have more faith in some minicab driver who may or may not even be qualified than I do in myself? No. So from now on......

You should always belt up in a mini cab. I was in a London cab recently, I was belted up, my boss wasn't. When some tit walked out in front of the cab, my boss hit the floor. Bloody funny. Reason enough I think.

It's because you are usually pissed when you get in a minicab!

I can never understand that people that put their seatbelt on AFTER they've started driving. I've got a friend who does it, he'll wait until he's travelling at about 30mph usually at a really awkward moment like going round a tight bend and then he'll put his belt on. He also drives like a complete spaz about a metre from the car in front so I always make sure I'm belted up as soon as I get in.

I have worn a seat belt ever since I first owned a car that had one. This was reinforced when my mother ended up in hospital after headbutted her steering wheel in a crash. I too am amazed that people still don't. I have a relative here who doesn't because he is too fat (he just ignore you if you mention it) and I have a relative in Canada who goes on about somebody he knew who drowned because they couldn't release their seat belt when they went into a lake.

Pathetic in both cases.

Recall the time that the rail crossing was coming down and he accelerated to make sure he got through.... I shit myself
