Does anyone here understand central heating systems?

Radiators are normally placed under windows rather than next to them :p

Why do house designers always do this? It seems bloomin' daft to me: unless you have a super-insulating window the heat goes straight up from the radiator and gets lost outside.

Place the radiator on an inside wall and it will heat the room up instead - which I always thought was the point.

Brass bedwarmers are nowhere near as good as the contraption that my Italian landlady used to provide me with in winter

If only you had left your post at that point.... We could have spent ages imagining all sorts.
