Anybody remember the original 'Saved By The Bell'. Cheesy American High School comedy that was only ever on during school holidays. Starred of course the lovely Elizabeth Berkeley and Tiffany-Amber Tiessen (which was your favourite? ). That guy who played Screech gradually turned into a squeakier parody of himself as the series went on, and the last time I saw him was when I was on holiday in the US last year and he was on some celebrity boxing show. I heard somewhere that the guy who played Zack died?

Kelly Kapowski was fitter and is absolutely gorgeous...

Screech did indeed become very squeeky in the later series especially the New Class episodes.

I enjoy the College Years ones that are on Trouble now, Kelly looks graet in them.

There was a rumour that Marc-Paul Gosselaar (Zack) died, i heard that his limo drivers drove off a bridge but its not true, thankfully.

I consider myself to be a Saved by the Bell 'superfan'.

haha I had the pleasure of meeting Screech in L.A. as he was going out with a friend of a friend at UCLA. Absolute legend and total anglophile, he absolutely LOVES The Young Ones. Oh and you should have seen the bird he was going out with FACKING AMAZING!!!

My son is a big fan of 'Saved by the Bell' and I admit I can watch it without feeling that my brain is liquefying and coming out of my ears - which is what I feel like if he's watching 'Keenan and Kel'

I thought the guy that played Zac in Saved By The Bell OD'd and died.

I guess M*A*S*H is crap because it's American?

The interesting thing about M*A*S*H was that it was transmitted in the US with canned laughter, but transmitted in the UK without.

I remember seeing an interview with some of the cast and writers who agreed that the UK version was the way they'd wanted it done.

A top show.

As is Larry Sanders.

And is there no-one speaking up for the masters of US film comedy?

Never mind the early silent films (although NOTHING can beat Buster Keaton). What about the Marx Brothers and Woody Allen?

what was that really shit film about a race across america with rowan atkinson? i wasted 1 and half hours of my life watching that!

You mean Rat Race? It was harmless, I thought. And how can you not enjoy the scene with the Jews driving Hitler's Mercedes? Or the busload of Lucys?

The strange thing is that on the DVD box set that came out in may is that some episodes have the canned laughter, some don't. TBH i don't notice it much, but then i love the programme :)

Friends, Cheers when it first started, Married with Children & The Simpsons are the only good american comedies. Although even these ones cant compare to Blackadder, Dads Army, Are you being served & of course the "Carry On" films.

How anyone finds Dad's Army funny is beyond me.

I find Friends and Simpsons funny. Not a big fan of their other comedies.

But at least they can make excellent non comedy programmes like 24 and Six Feet Under.

On the topic of 'Saved By The Bell', I remember in 1994 watching it and for some reason hoping that it would still be on when I went to high school. Little did I need to worry as it is still being shown now, nearly 10 years later.

I thought “SBB –New Class” and “SBB – College Years” were poor though.

Woody Allen's an interesting one. Virtually impossible to pigeonhole as its such an individual brand of humour, very much a matter of personal taste. Personally I think some are classics, but others whose opinions I normally respect on films can't abide the bloke and his oeuvre.
