I'm not condoning England terrible record. Point is, Scotland aren't the angels their PR machine seems to have spun. We shouldn't condone their long history of trouble too, simply because it's 'not as good as Englands' ???

Scotland fans don't have a 'long history of trouble', simple as. OK they may have good-naturedly broken a crossbar at Wembley half a century ago, but other than that I'm genuinely struggling to think of a single thing. Tho I'm sure you'll be able to dredge up two or three examples if you really put some intensive effort into it. At which point I'd counter with a simple tap-int wo or three DOZEN examples (if I could be arsed)

No idea what you're getting at by quoting me. I said I don't care what Scotland do, if they qualify great if not I don't care, the same as I don't care if Bulgaria, France, Cyprus or Sweden qualify. I also said I'm always happy when we beat them not that we always beat them...
I'm sure you're always happy when Sweden beat Finland?
Don't see how this was deemed cocky.

Absolutely. Every time there's a tournament, the old stereotyping goes into overdrive. England fans excitement gets tagged 'arrogance' when genuine expectation of potentially doing well at tournaments died 20 years ago: we're the polar opposite now, and don't believe we'll do well going into every tournament which is why the semi-final appearance against Croatia was such a dramatic unexpected pleasure!

But hey, England are still labelled as hooligans, another stereotype from the last century, despite dozens of other countries having far worse records for stabbings, para-militaries, racism etc that's even condoned by their own governments in some instances. Least Thatcher tried to put a stop to it rather than contribute to the ferry and flags.

It's like saying all Swedes are boring, just because that's their national image along with alcoholism and suicides. It's not true.

Scotland fans travelling to overseas tournaments over the last 18 years haven’t been any trouble at all!

Have I got this right?

Win the group and we play either France or Germany

Finish 2nd and we play Poland or Sweden ???

A good chance of that happening, but not certain.

Current champions Portugal are in the Group of Death F as well. For the winners of D, it'll be one of those 3 (or Hungary) in Dublin on Tuesday 29th June.

Win that and a Quarter-Final in Rome awaits.

2nd place would see a game against the runner up of Spain, Sweden, Poland or Slovakia in Copenhagen on Monday 28th June.

A victory there would see a Quarter-Final in St Petersburg.

Too many possible combinations of opponents for 3rd place in Group D to mention, but the match location would be one of Bilbao, Glasgow or Budapest.

Once more, because you appear to be struggling with this, I'm not nor ever will condone england fans hooligan behaviour. But I will, have pointed out Scottish fans caused plenty of trouble abroad too in their time. And I'm not searching through fecking newspapers just to somehow convince you. Because I've already mentioned one such instance more recently (Rangers) and you've ignored that, which supports how resistant to some truth on this matter you are. So finding cuttings from newspapers in the 70s and 80s to indulge your ignorance appears rather pointless given it won't change your bigotry on the matter. I'm more than content with my memory though, even if England fans and English club fans grabbed the headlines. You seem obsessed with comparing with England. What's wrong with seeing BOTH countries have shamed themselves? If you are going to compare, I don't remember England fans actually ever invading a pitch and destroying the goals of a foreign national stadium...that takes some beating, but I'm sure you'll excuse that too as "just jocky japes" to show how ridiculously biased you are! Ignorance is bliss I guess. But it's also no excuse.

Lots of permutations of course

England v Sweden in Copenhagen is my guess

Nothing to do with the fact I have a brother who lives there

I'm quite happy for the Scots to qualify. 22 years is a bloody long time to not make a tournament.

I'm not looking forward to our game against them and all the jingoism and baiting that will go with it though. I'm expecting lots of accusations of English arrogance and anyone but England sentiment similar to when we played Wales in Euro 2016. Probably a massively overblown police presence too and stories of English rampages. Hopefully I'm wrong and what we get is a rocking Wembley atmosphere and an 8-0 England win...

I dont remember exactly what you wrote but dont think too much about it, it was just jokes and banter (10 000 b.c. to 2008, rip) / trolling and being offensive (200:cool:.

Interesting thoughts. Im going to have a drink and read some Wikipedia articles about cultural stereotypes while thinking about what you said.

Rivalry is always bigger in eyes of the lesser team, in this instance Scotland by some distance.

In 70s and 80s used to want Scotland to do well as a home nation. Since then, along with Wales, they can go feck themselves. ABS ABW all day long. When we conceded a late consolation against Holland in Euro 96, it was so sweet that the Jocks went out because of. The only interest I have in Scotland appearing at the finals is the odds on them NOT even scoring a goal. I expect they’re not that good though, the Sweatys are so dull, so bad, the completion had to be expanded before they could qualify that’s how bad they are!! Think there’s fewer countries that didn’t qualify than did, that’s how much of a joke the finals has become along with being played everywhere!!!

1. Your second paragraph seems at odds with your opening line. On this evidence the rivalry appears to be alive and well on both sides.

2. I wouldn't call Euro 20 a joke. The format may be bloated, but all the big boys are there, it will be interesting to have a tournament played over a continent as well.

Not at all, Wales and Scotland will always feel more passionate about beating England because they’re the minnows. Hence the AOB etc to stoke up rivalry etc. But also, Both minnows rarely play at tournaments now it’s killed any real rivalry. Not like we had in the 70s and 80s when Scotland had some first class players. And yes Euro 20 is bloated, that’s my point. Scotland and other minnows really just there to add tv revenue not compete. Scotland won’t score a goal never mind win a match or qualify. As the old joke goes, what call a Scotsman in the 2nd round. England will likely underachieve, but at least there’s a realistic chance of progression.
