Out of interest, and to save me looking it up, can anybody advise what Reading's position was this time last year?*

I'm not suggesting we will do a Reading, merely that it's not impossible to go on a hot streak and move up the table pretty quickly, ie to the play off zone.

*please do not answer "just north of the M4"

No I reckon just outside, 7th-8th. An improvement on last year so positive, just think we have drawn to many games and left it a bit too late

I am convinced that we'll end up in the top 6 providing we get in a speedy CB. It looks like we may have the tools upfront now to turn domination in home games into wins and our away form has been pretty reasonable anyway.

All the above assumes no long term injuries to key players

We are in with a great shout of the playoffs, I'd be interested to know where those who think we won't make the playoffs think we'll fall short.

For those of you who don't think we will finish top 6, name 6 teams who are likely to finish above us?

I can only name 4 - Cardiff, Leicester, Watford, Middlesbrough.

Cardiff
Leicester
Watford
Middlesborough
Hull
+A.N.Other, who will be the team who put together a stonking run-in. It could be anyone down to those on 37 points currently, which includes Leeds and Forest, who are both capable.

6 points better than Middleborough and Palace out of 54 points? Definitely. We'll finish 5th (if we keep Ulloa fit)

Will we win the play offs? Less sure about that.

No. We'll go on a mesmerising run of form from now, but then not win any of the last 10, dropping out of the play-offs on the penultimate or last match day.

That'd make a nice end of season binfest on here.

No, no I don't.

However, I think we will be fantastically placed for a full-on promotion assault next season.

I concur. I think we are a much better team than this time last year- am reluctant to shout from the rooftops about Ulloa after three quarters of a game, as
history is littered with one match wonders (Bryan Wade, Maheta Molango for example), but he did look rather promising. I'm just not allowing myself to get too excited just yet.

This time last year we were various players short of being in contention, from the goalkeeper right through to the strikers. Now I think we're almost there- perhaps a centre half or two away, which is heartening. Is that enough to go up this season? I'm not entirely convinced, and our historic form in April under Poyet doesn't necessarily fill me with confidence. If we didn't do it this season, it's not a major issue for me, so long as we were in a better position than 2011/12. Then next season it's all out for promotion, and with a more stable starting position. Can't complain at that (well I won't, but no doubt some will disagree).

Which reminds me. Best start saving for the inevitable increased price season ticket :(

Too close to call.

However, we are 9/1 to get promoted, and that's good enough for me. I'm in.
