One would have thought that break away would have needed large % vote in favour like a minimum 66% if the total voters eligible. A straight vote of perhaps 100 either way in 75% turn out wouldnt be a true reflection of the majoritys wishes. The only other answer would have been to make it compulsory to vote.

What would be more interesting would be English Voters voting for them to f*ck off and pay their own way - Wales and Ulster as well.

I can't believe it's got this close.

They would IMO be mad to leave the UK. far, far too many unanswered questions if they were to go it alone..

Big mistake allowing 16 year old kids to vote.

If the vote is yes; labour will be unelectable forever if Dave gets his act together. A yes vote for Scottish independence followed by yes to leave Europe would prove interesting!

Still can't believe just over 2% of the UK pop could split us apart.

I blame Labour, having Scottish and Welsh Assemblies was unnecessary and what more could come back to bite them, if there is a YES vote when will Labour ever win an election again. Complete fools..

I might be missing something but how did you arrive at 2%? In theory, everyone could abstain except for one person who votes for independence and that would be a majority. That would be a very small percentage 0.0000063% (1/63,000,000th). Apologies if the decimal point isn't quite right but you get the drift.

For what it's worth, think the vote will be yes but for the wrong reasons. Salmond is a good orator but has no substance and is merely appealing to the romantic image of an independent Scotland. Doubt the Tories will be crying too much if Scotland goes as it makes life a little easier for them.

What will Salmond's title be should they vote for independence? He cant be King because Scotland isn't a Kingdom, He cant be Prince of Scotland because it isn't a Principality, Scotland will still be a country though.....

:) It is all about him wanting to be seen as the first "President" of Scotland, whatever the impact it has on those who ultimately will pick up the tab.

If they vote yes - and it IS a distinct possibility - it should end forever the chance of Rangers and Celtic getting into the English football league system.

I'm given to understand that his likely title would remain as First Minister, with HMQ remaining as Head of State. The idea would then be that any decision on monarchy and such would be taken after she's gone.

Why is a change to the constitution being decided upon by only one part of the United Kingdom and why on a 50/50 vote and not a two thirds majority?

They get free education and free prescriptions. How do they intend to pay for that? Does it all revert back to oil?

Perhaps it does, but years ago around the time of the Falklands war,a study showed that the area in and around the Falklands had as much possibly up to 9 times the amount of oil that was in the North sea,now i am not about to say we went to war over oil in the Falklands,as it was a sovereignty issue, but perhaps oil does play a part..

If they vote yes, then that's it, they're independent. If they vote no however, can they have another go next year and keep trying until they get it , or is there a set period that they would have to wait before they can do it all again?
