[Technology] Do you still watch DVDs ?

Mrs Blue3 recently purchased a learn to dance DVD while we were on a cruise from the on board dance instructors excitedly once home we sat together to watch this only then did we remember we no longer owned a DVD player ( this tale could have easily been posted on the getting old thread )

How else would I watch my Harold Lloyd and Clara Bow films without my DVD player?
Yes and BluRay.
But not as much as we did due to Amazon Firestick, Netflix, BBC4 and Film4.
We recently had a sort out and took a load of DVD’s to a chariy shop, leaving Disney classics, comedy, Box Sets, other loved films and some sports DVD’s.
Also some family DVD’s, of camcorder footage, professionally converted by specialists.
(Still have a working video recorder, with some tapes!)

Yes. It's not possible to find everything being streamed at the moment. For example, I thought I'd introduce by son to Blade Runner as I thought he'd love it. I checked and it's not being streamed by Netflix, Amazon or Virgin but it is available on DVD - so that's the way to go.
I also fancied watching Un Condamné à mort s'est échappé last week but, again, coudn't find it online. I found my DVD in the loft and watched that.

Personally, I still prefer a physical copy. Though I have been streaming a bit more since getting a smart TV (previously I had streamed through my xbox, which always seemed too much hassle).
I suppose it comes down to how legal you want to be with your movie viewing. The success of netflix is leading to everyone wanting in on the game, hulu, disney+/Disney Life, DC Universe, plus loads of US networks providing their own services. We're starting to see the effects of that now as Netflix has cancelled its Marvel series (these would likely end up on Disney+) as content creators start keeping their content for their own services. You're going to have to start looking into subscribing to several different outlets to get access to all the things you want to watch. If you're happy to find less legal ways of getting films, that won't be an issue.
The other thing to consider is your internet connection. Mine is fine for 720p (halfway between standard definition, and high definition), as long as no one else is streaming a video or downloading image-heavy pages.
Back when I first got into digital music I bought a load of singles from itunes. Years later when I had a new computer, and they started making music available in your library via the cloud, I tried to download them all. One song in particular didn't download. I went to the itunes store, and I had bought several songs from the same album. Those other songs all showed as having been purchased by me, but one of the ones I bought didn't. It turns out there had been some change to the album, which meant it was temporarily taken out of availability and then put back in and my purchase wasn't recognised anymore (as I had the email confirmation and order number, I received a store credit when I questioned this). It has put me off buying films to download (and the few that I have bought, I have made sure to download as well, just to be sure)
Most dvds were in the original format of the film, usually that is widescreen. The issue with the scream dvd wasn't that it was widescreen, but that it didn't stretch to fit the screen when played on a widescreen tv - I have had a widescreen tv since around the time I started getting dvds, and any time I watched scream I had to stretch the picture to get it in the proper ratio. That doesn't appear to be an issue with the blu ray version.
