True story -

I know a bass player who has carried a spare set of strings with him for over 50 years, just in case. When I asked if he'd ever used them, he told me once, when he was very young.

The exhaust fell off his car and he used one to tie it back on

(This is the same guy who was playing in a trio, when the drummer and guitarist 'left' and asked if he minded them using the band name)
