The Juggs should be great but they never seem to get the serving system right. It used to be somewhere we went pre-pandemic, but seems to have gone downhill a bit.

It's out in the country so really closer to a restaurant type pub. Heaving in good weather previously. I wonder about how busy it would be at other times. I also wonder how easy it is to staff. The last few times non of the waiting staff seemed to be over 14.

Setting sun, likewise used to be great. Quite small hut an excellent outdoor space with good views. That simple local decent food premise seemed to be ruined the last time i went in with really tacky decorations and chandeliers and they'd killed the atmosphere. I've no idea how you fail to run a pub in hannover. Must be fairly constant foot fall
Setting Suns downfall will be that it’s a Henieken pub. They spend hundreds and thousands on renovations, entice green and naive new landlords who have no real idea how expensive the beer is they’re buying, they run out of money. Rinse and repeat. Nothing worse than the dreaded ‘investment planned’ symbol next to a listing. Almost always means the pub is going to end up looking even worse.

Out of those I’d go with the battle.

The juggs used to be good, as others have said, especially in the summer. But if it is still shepherd neame or even worse, they’ve ragged it then don’t even drive past it!

Covid benefitted pubs more than that group of shysters ever have, would or could.

In my defence, I was left unsupervised.

What's the pub opposite the Battle of Trafalgar called? Me and some friends went out for drink on Friday. We went to the B.o.T. - which was heaving (as had been all the other pubs we'd been into that evening. As you'd expect for a Friday). Then we went to the pub opposite - which was completely empty. Dunno why as it seemed ok.

(Also we met the legend that is Taxman in the B.o.T - which was nice)

It always seemed like a diamond boozer to me. Off the main roads but usually full. It just looked weird. Like they'd try to model it on a provincial curry house.

Get a laid back vibe going and some nice food and it'll be great. The view from the garden is the best in brighton

Used to be one across the road called the Sussex Yeoman. Don't know if it's still there. Seem to recall it being very expensive, poor selection of beers and devoid of atmosphere. But apart from that, fine 😄

The Tap is a very different pub to the one I frequented as a youngster, decades ago. Denise ran it and cider loving taxi driver Chris did the Sunday evening pub quiz. Jockey was on the okey. Sticky carpets, free sandwiches etc, etc.
I've been past it about a thousand times don't think I've ever considered going in. It's in a weird transient spot with no parking and surrounded by busy roads. Somehow the feng shut is off

We held my mum's wake in The Setting Sun. Struck me as a pub with a lot of potential but the owners didn't know what to do with it - it wasn't open every day, for example, so they weren't maximising income.

Setting Sun I used to go to for veggie roasts. Really good ones before you got good ones. I think.

County Oak - now New Oak.
It has vastly improved since this when it was in the middle of multiple owners/landlords, but a very different pub from the one I used to drink in 30 years ago!

If you’re planning a visit here leave your common sense at home and take a couple of minders.'

Golden, whatever happened to the Pub Spy.

Sussex Yeoman.
Never been in.
The problem it's got is its between either better or more immediate pubs. If people are just looking for a pint they're confronted with 4 immediate pubs out of the station. Anyone who knows what they're doing will go to the BoT or DoW instead. So it's a bit no-mans-landy

Did you never go in the snipe?!

One of the few pubs that have scared me.

Sounds like the BoT is an amazing proposition. Established. Albion connections. Good location. Basically don’t need to do anything to it.
Just a quick heads-up that the owners wanted to transform it into a Sports Bar. This shortly before the pandemic hit. The community felt so strongly about it that they got a petition up to stop the changes. Think the petition was successful on that occasion, tho not sure what the current state of play is. Again, maybe some deeper research needed

Echo the positive comments about the Battle of Trafalgar. Though one of those irrational things that's always annoyed me if that with the normally occupied stools at the bar, there's not really much space to get around it.

The Setting Sun. This should be really good. And more could be made of the views. I used to go there on fireworks night for example to see the fireworks going off around the city and there wasn't really anyone else out there. Loads of scope to improve the offering as I agree it's a bit hard to work out what sort of pub it is. A warning though Hanover pubs have got better over the last few years, (or closed), so there's strong competition.

The New Oak. Isn't this the one with the landlord that caught Veltman's shirt with the GPS? It's my mates local and he says it can be a bit rough on Friday nights

Brewery tap. Yes, who actually goes there?

Great stuff. I’ve had experience of this with the same pub group. They forced it on me, I left, they’re now returning it to what it was. Jokers.

I have a ban on bar stools.
People hate it until they realise they can actually get to the bar.

I would definitely sort out the toilets. In many respects that pub is popular because it’s in a great spot plus it’s very unreconstructed in an area where so many have been tarted up - it literally looks exactly the same as it did when I first started drinking in there, apart from the removal of the bar billiards table.

But the last time I was in there either the ladies or the gents was out of action on a match day. A lived-in look can be very cozy and welcoming in any pub but IMHO not when that vibe extends to a smelly malfunctioning khazi.
