Do you honestly think the Albion could be playing Premier League football in Aug 2013

I went to the Bristol City v Blackburn game yesterday and will eat my hat* if Blackburn win this league. They were largely pretty average and the scoreline flattered them.

*I don't actually have a hat, but will buy one if necessary.

i think we are one season away from being ready for the prem, the signs are superb and the club itself is ready. The thing that pleases me is that the brand of football we play IS READY for the prem and I think we will stay there when we do get there like swansea have. Teams that have gone up that dont play the passing games, such as Southampton, QPR, Wolves, Birmingham will always struggle as they cant play the brand of football that is required to compete. we will do ok. Good times ahead and im loving the ride.

What do you think we're lacking at the moment?

Consistency is still to be tested, we had great spells last year and then some right rotten spells, we look better this year, but that's to be tested. Hopefully we improve on that and you just never know!

I'd rather enjoy what we are doning now and see what happens if it happens. Just look at the hammerings certain promoted sides are having so let's be good & ready for the big time.

This week will be a good test. Two away games against teams who are struggling, the type of games we lost last season. Really, we should beat them with ease. If we can do that then ther'll be some real momentum. Fail to do so & NSC so es back to Binfestery.

As long as the Albion continue to entertain and play with the pace we have recently I'm happy and anything is a bonus.

Just one thing, only three games ago there were question marks over our goal scoring record, three games on happy days but does Gus still need that Big striker.

Must get automatic promotion , play-offs a lottery. This squad can do it.

Not being a killjoy, but I think, playoffs, is the realistic target still, this season. Who knows thereafter.

If our core 11-13 players are fit, then we could be top two.
However, whilst we have adequate cover, we are not top 6 material with those in the rest of the squad.

Take for example yesterday:

CMS came off & we never really threatened too much afterwards

Bruno came off & Calderon was at fault for 'Wall's goal.

Without our keeper, Ankergen/Brez - would have dropped points.

Also, we have yet to play some of the BIG teams away from home.

Calderon is as good going forward, if not better. Its just that he isn't as good defensively and Gus gets a bit scared about that sometimes

I think you're entirely wrong there. In every way, shape AND form.

Agreed. Nothing against Inigo, but Bruno is something else (accepting that we're only talking about going forward here).

oh please. We've seen Bruno five times now? He's great, but when he starts volleying the ball in from the edge of the box, then we'll talk.

Sorry but Bruno is a class above Calde in every aspect, as much as i love Calde too, he just is though. Would grace any Prem league team imo

Exactly what I, and most people, have spotted. He is incredible, especially at this level.
Bruno is a fantastic player, much better than Calderon in every respect. That doesn't mean that suddenly Calderon isn't any good, he is a very important player around the squad but for the time being he's going to have to accept being behind a player of superior talent.
I'm a founder member of the Calde fan club.
I thought I'd be an old man telling the kids about a RB we once had.
To have him superseded by a player in the same squad is unbelievable.

Calde as proven today is very very important for any promotion push.
How many RB's in this league can seemlessly replace Bruno, or for that matter AEA & Greer.

Bruno is class, and ahead of Calde but not by as much as people are saying.

Not only do I think we could get promoted, I think we could win this league. I see no evidence that its any harder than last year and we are much better and more experienced.

Howeverto the question WILL we? I don't know! We will be better than 10th and should be better than 6th. I just count the points month by month. Last year we had 2 bad dips. The key now is keeping it going to Xmas. We can surely get 5 more points from Palace! We are currently where we were after the came no of games but several points up in games against the same opposition. If we can maintain 2 points per game that's ok. First target then 50 points (and safety) from the first 25 games.

My prediction 4th - and if we don't make it through the playoffs we can get automatic promotin next year - then we survive in the Premiership...

Agreed, a lot of the squad are, we can't play the same eleven all season.

None, including Inigo.
or for that matter AEA & Greer.
Quite a few I'd think. El Hab and Germaine are doing great for us, but I'm sure there are plenty of CBs in the division as good as them. To suggest that replacing them would be as difficult as replacing Bruno is a little mad.

Calde has his moments, but not all of them good. He went off the boil at the end of our last season in League 1, and had some dodgy moments last year too. We've seen nothing but brilliance from Bruno so far.

.
Yeah but how many of the adequate replacements are actually right backs, who also happen to be good enough to fill Bruno's shoes.

That's why Calde is so important.

Given that I don't think there's a player in the division capable of filling Bruno's shoes, I'm not sure what you mean. Clearly I think the answer is none, including Inigo.

I agree he's very important. Bruno won't be able to play every match, and we need cover everywhere, so Inigo is an important member of the squad, no argument there.

My point is.
Bruno is a class apart.
I don't think there are too many, if any, players in this league who can comparatively easily replace him, without disrupting the team shape and formation.

I think Calde can do that, he certainly didn't look out of place, yesterday.

But not only that our replacement for the best right back, in the league, can also step into centre back too.

Which is why Calde is so important.
