I have it and scan in when asked, but I don't tend to leave it running all the time. Mostly because it kills the battery to have data, bluetooth and location all running all the time. Plus I live alone in a flat and I don't much fancy it pinging because someone in a different flat with a different access route gets it.

Mine stopped working and I've been in no rush to fix it. Having been lucky enough to be at the one dayer on Tuesday last week (full test event) and the GP Qualifying at Silverstone on Saturday - again full - I figured it was a bad time for that to be active.

I test twice a week with work in any case which is surely far more scientific that people I may or may not have had contact with. It does seem ridiculous that double jabbed people who've had a dose of Covid on top might be told to isolate but those who haven't had the Vaccine or don't have track and trace / give a false name will never be told to do so. Time for a re-think?

Used several times recently to check-in to pubs, restaurants and non-league football grounds.
If I get pinged I'll likely not isolate but will take Covid tests to check my status over the following days.

This article https://www.spiked-online.com/2021/07/16/the-pingdemic-another-mess-of-the-governments-making/ pretty much sums up my view on it.

I was pinged on December 23rd so spent Christmas with the dog on my own. I was happy to do it and I stuck to it.

The cynic in me thinks the government have tweaked the settings of the app to be stupidly sensitive as they knew they couldn't push today back again.

its inevitable consequence of the app. as noted, government limited in what change can be made as its based off Google/Apple subsystems. yes, government should have dug in and gone with their original plan, howls of outrage won.

My old Nokia (non smartphone) is still working fine but doesn't have apps. Can't see why I should buy a new phone while my current one is still going strong and does what I want it to do.
Exactly. There should have been a "I don't have a smart phone and I don't want/need one" option too!

From that article:

Half a million people uninstalled the app last week.

i have it on my work iphone but work from home almost all the time.... It won't instal on my personal Samsung S6, despite the guidance saying it should. I expect it would drain my battery at an horrendous rate if the trusty old S6 could run it.

Used it throughout, pinged twice and isolated as advised.

It's useful to know if/when you have had potential exposure, even if you are a complete dick head and plan to ignore it anyway.
