Interesting debate....I was forced to go to Sunday School, well it was the Forties...but I have questions to ask and my points on here are all my own opinions, others are entitled to their opinions be they different or not.
First thing I noticed was the 'Faith' saying they were right and and every other religion was wrong....not a very Christian outlook...
Secondly they preached about life after Death....really...my opinion is that when you die you know nothing..you don't even know you have been on Earth or anything about life...if you did,why did'nt you know about anything before birth.....re-incarnation?....I'm so unlucky I would come back as me!!
The two most common causes of War are land disputes and religion, you don't have to be religious to be a good citizen, just know right from wrong...each of us have different beliefs...who is able to say if your right or wrong?....I believe in Lord Gus and the Albion....forgive others their sins....well apart from Palace...no each to their own,if you are a believer good for you....but don't tell me I'm wrong!....Here endeth the first lesson, peace be with you...may your God go with you.....Jesus is that bottle of Vodka empty already......:guitar:

No child that is born believes in God, it is drummed into them. Religion is a control mechanism and a very effective one at that.

I was raised a Catholic, but when the cat killed my father 25 years ago I saw through the mirage.

OK.... is that true or is there a hidden meaning that passed me by... your dad was killed by a cat?

I'll address your economic points as the others are even weaker.

How much of the national debt could be repaid if every church was sold to a developer. About 0.05% (that is one twentieth of 1% in case you're not sure). You might want to look up the size of our national debt and UK land values. Pretty tenuous link if you think eradicating religion is going to fix the UK economy

How much money would hard pressed couples save by not marrying at a church about £200. If you ever get married you'll know that Churches are one of the smallest parts of the cost of a wedding and no-one says you have to have fancy clothes, cars, flowers, etc... just to get married in one. It would save people more money ignoring their families and friends and not having receptions in hotels.

Man created God and man created religion not the other way round. And religion then controlled the masses and opressed anyone they perceived as a threat to their power or simply didn't like. Religion raped and killed and sexually molested its way around the globe in a myriad of different guises and labels. As for Jesus? Just another poster boy and myth laden pile of cack like all the others.

He no doubt existed. Was probably the equivalent of a modern day terrorist.

In fact, he is still delivering terror today.

How much happier would this world be if religion did not exist.

How much of the national debt could be repaid if every church was sold to a developer.

How many kids would not have been abused by clergy

How much money would hard pressed couples save by not marrying at a church

How many of us would be more intelligent by not wasting our school time learning about this crackpot

How many of us would have not wasted a Saturday evening by spending it in some church hall, 50 miles from home for some relative we hardly know

I'm sure many more can be added!

post of the year!

psht, let people believe what they want. Belief is the key word here.

What I'm getting at is that belief is fine and dandy. Good. Whatever you'd like to think that makes life easier for you.

When secular people start saying 'your belief is bullshit, because we all know blah blah blah about so and so' is when it crosses the line.

Also when fundamentalists start preaching their belief as truth it crosses the line.

When did belief become something that should be forced on the masses?

Let people believe what they want. Be nice about it. You clearly won't tell them otherwise.

I would probably class myself as an atheist, so if he did exist I don't for a second believe he was the son of god etc. However, as to whether the person existed (and his life story twisted an re-appropriated by religion) I don't really care too much. Whether there is credible evidence or not (which does seem to be doubted) it makes no difference, imo.

I don't believe one has to be religious to lead a 'good Christian' existence i.e. follow their morals and so on.

I don't suppose you meant it this way, so hope this doesn't sound like I'm attacking you, but it reads like anyone who lives a morally good life is living a christian life, and I don't like the intimation that goodness = christian. Living your life not killing, murdring, lying, cheating, stealing etc. isn't trademarked by christians. If you live a ood honest life you are living to good morals, not christian morals.

Yes of course, and many fairly decent people that we all know do cheat, and cheating isn't half as bad a crime as you suggest she may have committed...
That is a ludicrous post. I agree that rape might have been the cause (if not, it was voluntary), but I am an atheist. How can someone who believes that Jesus was the son of God, also believe it's possible that Mary was raped? To acknowledge that she was raped is to acknowledge that she pretended hers was the worlds first immaculate conception and pretended that the unborn baby was the son of God, therefore accepting that it was a lie from the start and that Jesus wasn't the son of god.

Did God get Mary's consent?

Not sure why you thought that, but no apology necessary :)

Because the bible tells us mary magdalene was a prostitute (some conspiracy theories would sugget she was not it was just part of the bible repressing women), so the comment about mary the slag probably sent his mind that way.

There could have been a carpenter called Jesus. The rest is utter gash.

Kids believe in father Christmas, the tooth fairy and the bible. Why give up on only two stories?

Jesus was/is a muslim prophet, saviour of christians and king of the Jews but never actually existed in the form dreamt up by the Abrahamic religions. Anybody who takes the translated ramblings of a semi-literate bunch of goat herders in the Palestinian desert in the years before and after year 0 seriously shouldn't be allowed out in the community unsupervised. They're nutters. I don't care if they're muslims, christians, satanists, animists or pagans, they're all the same. If that offends your 'faith', I couldn't give a monkey's. Militant secularism/atheism/rational scepticism is here to stay and there's nothing that an unelected Muslim baroness (that cretin Warsi) can do about it. It's the duty of every rational sceptic to constantly attack any religious 'thought' (which is an oxymoron) because if we don't, the theist mob will be ramming its concept of a celestial dictatorship down our throats at every opportunity it can. The whole edifice of religion would be farcical if it didn't have such tragic consequences for groups such as the victims of sexual abuse by priests, gays and women in muslim theocracies.

For f***'s sake Uncle, what an absolute pile of f***ing shit.

Mods can we please limit the number of threads US is allowed to start to 20 a day. Thanks.

I'm a fundamentalist atheist but I don't see why US should be prevented from posting his thoughts if he wants to. If you start banning free expression of thought, you're on the slippery slope to a christian/muslim/jewish/hindu etc. society. You deal with people who have views that you disagree with by using rational scepticism or ignoring them, not banning them.
