Women (in general) are watching a man to see that he treats her with discipline as well as compassion as and when she deserves. Human nature decrees that some people will have a tendency to have esteem issues and pride - which will mess with their head if they aren't circumspect about their relationship/s.
They are looking to a man to be able to love with discipline as well as softness as required, as that's also intrinsic to the raising of children.
Discipline is a manifestation for love too, doncha know.

Sad-arsed sorry-for-themselves losers will often melt into this 'nice guys lose' excuse, but they have themselves to blame anyway. Plus, if it ain't meant to be they ought to respect the great fate-decider and get on with things in the present and stop mulling over their tragic past.
